We know that everyone is probably getting tired of all the Krispy Kreme grand opening hoopla, but there is some breaking news about the presidential race coming from Dupont Circle. President Bush is losing the D.C. doughnut vote.

A press release from Krispy Kreme said that 82 percent who participated in the Bush-Kerry red-sprinkle, blue-sprinkle presidential doughnut poll chose Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry. While it is unclear whether professional pollers will take the poll seriously (DCist thinks not), Krispy Kreme is pumping up the findings.

In a pre-poll analysis, pollster Joe Randazzo predicted, "Perhaps many people will glaze over the importance of a doughnut poll, but we do need to look at the hole [sic] picture in this presidential race. At Luntz Research, we won't sugar-coat the results and therefore, our prediction is that no matter who wins, it will be well within the Margarine of Error."

DCist is having an adverse reaction to that PR spin, just like how we have adverse stomach reactions to margarine. (We apologize for the cheesy headline on this post, but we put it in because we got caught up in the spirit of moment.)

Also, while many were celebrating Krispy Kreme's opening earlier this week, the North Carolina-based company's stock prices haven't been doing all that well.
