Remnants of Hurricane Isabel
As Florida stares down Hurricane Frances, DCist thought it's appropriate to showcase one odd reminder of the last tropical system to make its way through the Washington area. At the corner of 18th and U sts NW is this sign -- the old 18th and U Diner has yet to take down its advertisement for a Hurricane Isabel party from last year. It says: "Bring Her On." No word on when or if the sign will ever come down.
On the jump, check out DCist's survey of what Isabel did to some trees in Glover Archbold Park and the Whitehaven Parkway greenbelt in Upper Northwest.

In the Whitehaven Parkway greenbelt, many trees uprooted in and around the community garden near W and 39th streets.

Since the U.S. Park Service has limited resources, fallen trees blocked the Glover Archbold trail for months and months after Isabel blew through town. Many trees are still down across hiking paths, most evident on the Wesley Heights trail, but for the most part, the trails of Upper Northwest have been cleared.

Four days. Do you hear that Dominion Power?? Four days with no electricity. A small dark oasis in the midst of an electrified circus. I used to like the name Isabelle...
