Masonic Conspiracies 101

wsquare.gifIf you frequent Dupont or Logan circles, please note those traffic circles are tied to the apex of all evil: The White House. That's what people who push Masonic conspiracy theories would like to make you to believe at least. Now that "DaVinci Code" author Dan Brown is preparing his next megaseller on D.C.'s Masonic machinations, we thought we'd lay out the general thought patterns as to why some people think the L'Enfant street plan is why we're living in such a Luciferian city. (Oh, just wait for "National Treasure" this fall.)

From MASONIC CONSPIRACY:

Take any good street map of downtown Washington, D.C. and find the Capitol Building. Facing the Capitol from the Mall and using the Capitol building as the head or top of the Compass, the left leg is represented by Pennsylvania Ave. and the right leg, Maryland Ave. The Square is found in the usual Masonic position with the intersection of Canal St. and Louisiana Ave. The left leg of the Compass stands on the White House and the right leg stands on the Jefferson Memorial. The circle drive and short streets behind the building form the head and ears of what Satanists call the Goat Of Mendes or Goat's head!

Confused? Let us explain this in a little more depth.

According to the conspiracy theories, the Capitol, White House and the streets that connect and radiate from them are swimming in Masonic imagery. With the White House, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts and Rhode Island avenues and K Street form a perfect Satanic pentagram. With the Capitol, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Louisiana and Washington avenues form a Masonic compass and square.

masonic-lodge.JPGAnd ever wonder why the Scottish Rite temple on 16th Street is located where it is? You guessed it, its inner sanctum lines up perfectly with the Washington Monument. It's also 13 blocks north of the White House, which is very significant. And all these lines around the Capitol and the White House are somehow tied together though the placement of the monuments, with George Washington's obelisk at the center of it all.

And there is so much more, including an astrological chart tying Masonic designs in D.C. to Mars. Who knew you can take a map of Martian landmarks and superimpose them on D.C. and find connections between the central D.C. street layout, the Pentagon and a six-way intersection in Anacostia?

But there are some easy ways to poke holes in the Masonic street layout.

First off, the pentagram is not complete. Rhode Island Avenue does not intersect Washington Circle, therefore one of the pentagram's legs is just a partial stub.

Second, the Masonic compass formed by Louisiana and Washington avenues not only meet at different angles, but weren't even part of L'Enfant's original plan for the city. Louisiana Avenue was added 100 years ago as part of the McMillan Commission redevelopment for the monumental core. Washington Avenue, meanwhile, follows the old swampy Tiber Canal toward the Anacostia River. It meets the Mall axis between the Capitol and Washington Monument at a slightly different angle than Louisiana Avenue. Masons are very exact people, they wouldn't get that one wrong.

capitol_owl.jpgThird, the lobe-like Goat of Mendes on the East Front of the Capitol were added by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted in the 1870s/80s. (Olmsted designed New York's Central Park.) So there's no tie to L'Enfant. So if Washington is fact a diabolical Masonic plan, it has been a work in progress, not a pre-determined scheme.

And Maryland Avenue does not exactly line up with the Jefferson Memorial. So with that, you might as well then figure that the developers of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel chose their random out-of-the-way location on Maryland Avenue SW out of some sort of grand Luciferian scheme.

grayson-alexandria.jpgAnd to add some more conspiracy theories to the fire, DCist would like to note that the Vice President Cheney's Naval Observatory residence lines up with the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria. (Which sits near Carlyle Street ...) So perhaps Vice President Cheney, who controls global time, is tied with George Washington's Masonic organization, which is located sort-of-near a street that shares a name with an organization tied to the Bush family and Saudi oil sheiks. Boo-ya! We got something. (OK, that's stretching it just a bit too far perhaps, but let the speculation begin.)

On a side note, Sandusky, Ohio, (home to Cedar Point) also has a Masonic street plan.
