Friday Night Fights

debatecombo.jpegRound two of Bush vs. Kerry begins tonight at 9 p.m. on most major networks. The town hall style meeting will be moderated by ABC's Charlie Gibson, who will allow 15 to 20 hand-picked participants to ask questions. Unlike the last one, we're hoping that this time audience members will be allowed to laugh, sigh, cheer, or just you know, breathe.

The recent release of the Iraqi arms report and today's Department of Labor jobs report promises to ignite an already heated election. Pundits, politicos and chatters on the Hill all agree that the outcome of this debate could be even more crucial to both candidates then the last.

DCist recognizes the importance of the debate, but it is Friday night. And we, for one, were ready to kick back and drown our election anxiety in mixture of pop tunes and cheap booze. Fortunately, we still can.

Inspired by today's Dan Froomkin's White House Briefing, where he tallies up the president's use of the phrase "of course" in the last debate, DCist offers up our own unique version of a debate drinking game. We know there are plenty of these lists out there, so feel free to give us your additions. "Of course," watch responsibly everyone!

Take a drink if...
1. Kerry says "the wrong war at the wrong place at the wrong time"
2. Bush smirks
3. Someone makes a Heinz ketchup reference
4. Bush refers to being "down on the ranch"
5. Anyone uses a bizarre, wonky acronym.
6. Either candidate accuses the other of "not being straight with the American people"
7. A D.C. landmark is mentioned
8. Either candidate tells a folksy story about someone "special" they meet on the campaign trail and how it opened their eyes to the plight of hard working Americans everywhere, et cetera ...

Chug it if...
1. The candidates promote their own websites
2. Bush admits things might not be going perfectly in Iraq
3. Paul Begala shouts "Tucker, you're so wrong!" (or something similar) in the spin room
4. A town hall participant asks a question about Dafur
5. Kerry talks about kitesurfing or snowboarding
