Market Lunch Ends Weekend Breakfasts
Alert DCist readers pointed us to the news that the Market Lunch, a staple of Eastern Market, has ceased weekend breakfast service. No reason other than possible fatigue has been cited.
The Market Lunch's breakfasts have long been one of the best options for a quick, affordable breakfast for Eastern Market shoppers. The Washingtonian noted a few years ago that the popularity of the breakfast was immediately visible:
On Saturday mornings, the line for Market Lunch at Eastern Market winds leisurely out the door, under the portico, and around the corner. Customers start arriving before opening time, still sleepy-looking and hungry, then sometimes end up waiting as long as 45 minutes for a $3 breakfast.
The most popular option for breakfast was probably the blueberry pancakes, which Voice of the Hill called "as hearty and sweet a stack of blueberry buckwheat pancakes as you’re liable to find outside of maple syrup country." The Market Lunch will still be open for breakfast on weekdays, and lunch service will continue on the weekends.
No worries for hungry Hill dwellers though. We have a couple of other options for a weekend breakfast, from the super cheap Jimmy T's and The Tune Inn, the more moderately priced Bread & Chocolate and Capitol Lounge, to the high-end Belga Cafe and, a bit further away, Bistro Bis.

I stopped going to Jimmy T's years ago when I realized I could make better food in my own kitchen and not deal with the inexplicably long wait (which should now only get worse) and the above mentioned terrible service. At least they'll still be open during the week, a Brick on the way to work after an evening spent drinking has often cured me of a raging hangover.
That sucks. :( I used to work across the street from Eastern Market and would breakfast there practically daily--not healthy, I know, but very, very tasty. I've been meaning to go to the flea market but now I'll know not to try and get there early to do breakfast first.
