Tsunami Telethon

2005_01_05_television.jpegLocal NBC affiliate station WRC in Washington will preempt an hour of its regular scheduled programming this Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. to broadcast a special Tsunami Relief Fund Drive. WNBC in New York City will anchor and produce the event in conjunction with UNICEF.
The show will feature appearances by UNICEF Ambassadors Sarah Jessica Parker, Tea Leoni and Clay Aiken. If that doesn't make you tune in, nothing will.

Viewers can call in pledges to a special UNICEF phone line -- (800) 4 UNICEF -- which will be manned by representatives of the organization. In addition, phone numbers and contact information for other organizations involved in the relief efforts will be posted throughout the show.

A separate, nation wide "music and celebrity-driven" telethon will be shown on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. on various cable and broadcast networks.

DCist will put away our usual contempt for celebrity posturing and trust that this event has good intentions.

They should have the celebrities answer the phone, like in that commercial.
