Weekly Music Agenda

Before we point you to our concert picks for this week, make sure you go check out the Six Points Festival lineup. The festival features performances from dozens of area bands at venues throughout Arlington and D.C.

MONDAY:
>> Sticky-sweet Japanese punksters Shonen Knife play the Black Cat tonight. $12.

2005_0307_loeb.jpgTUESDAY:
>> If you feel like a blast from the past (or, rather, the mid-90s), female rocker Lisa Loeb (at right), she of the black-framed glasses and hit "Stay", is at Rams Head in Annapolis. $23.50. (She's at Wolf Trap tomorrow night, too.)

WEDNESDAY:
>> We can't decide: iPod DJ Night at Saint-Ex, or Indie Rock Karaoke ($5) at DC9? Oh, the choices a girl must make in life.

THURSDAY:
>> Local spinner DJ Yakov will showcase UK and Swedish House Music at Andalu this evening. You can download some of his mp3s here.

FRIDAY:
>> Hot Hot Heat plays scorching synth rock at the 9:30 Club. Bonus: one of their openers is local favorite Washington Social Club. $15.

SUNDAY
>> If you're in the mood for something a little more cultured, the Washington Bach Consort is playing the St. John Passion at the National Presbyterian Church on Nebraska Avenue near American University at 3 p.m. Tickets will run you $15-47.

Sunday night Ingram Hill is playing at the State Theater in Falls Church. A great time to see an up & coming band... check out www.ingramhillmusic.com for more information

I'm hoping that Louis XIV (playing between HHH and Washington Social Club) will provide a much-needed dose of sneer and swagger. Fell in love with them after their Morning Becomes Eclectic Performance (link below). http://kcrw.org/cgi-bin/db/kcrw.pl?show_code=mb&air_date=1/19/05&tmplt_type=show

And Ash and the Bravery on Thursday at the Black Cat

ah, of course! how could i have forgotten my beloved ash? i've had tickets to that forever.

I recommend checking out Justin Jones and Brice Woodall at Revolution Records in D.C. on Sunday, March 13 at 4pm. I've never seen a performance in the store, so I don't know how it works, but both those guys have talent worth your time. Download some stuff of their stuff from washingtonpost.com/mp3 and check them out.

"some stuff of their stuff?"

Man...I'm really on today.

I'll include some links you can cut and paste this time...

DCist High School Football Rules!

Also worth mentioning is tomorrow night's (3/9) show with Maritime (former members of The Promise Ring and ex-Dismemberment Plan drummer Eric Axelson) and Bella Lea & Pash, at the Black Cat.

If you're in the mood for culture and philanthropy, check out one of DC's best choral groups, the Thomas Circle Singers. They're presenting a concert of music by modern American composers - one of whom will speak at the concert and be at the reception afterwards - on Saturday night at 8 pm at St. Patrick's church off MacArthur Boulevard. All proceeds benefit the Downtown Geriatric Cluster. Check out the website for more details and to buy tickets ($20/$15 students and seniors).
