Gawker: Ana Marie Cox Is Staying
There's been a flurry of speculation and rumors spinning about in New York and D.C. over the future of Gawker's Wonkette politics gossip blog. With Ana Marie Cox, the site's editor off writing a novel, Gawker has propped the blog up with a series of guest editors. According to a source close to the Gawker family, it has been a forgone conclusion that Cox would be leaving Wonkette permanently after she finishes her book this summer. Her ambitions? Television and punditry, which doesn't seem so shocking. So who would take over for Cox? Word on the street over the weekend had it that Gawker would tap deep-pocketed Kelly Ann Collins of the Washington Socialites to take over. But that sounded like crazy talk, but talk that wasn't necessarily out of the realm of possibilities.
But Lockhart Steele, Gawker's managing editor, tells DCist that is not the case:
To my knowledge, AMC has no plans to depart Wonkette.
This all comes on the heels of the departure of Gawker's one-time editorial director, Choire Sicha, who has settled at the New York Observer. That move has caused some blogging observers to take the temperature of the Gawker family, which may be running a slight fever.

I don't think Anne Marie Cox is worthy of being on television or a political pundit. She is completely unprofessional when she speaks and is really not funny. Wonkette is a total inside baseball gig that does not provide useful or even all that interesting information to the general public.
If AMC would like a career in television may I recommend media training and public speaking training. There are toastmaster courses throughout the DC and NYC area.
JMHO... and no I am not joking. I think AMC gives a bad name to all women who are serious about careers in journalism and politics.
Does this mean more pseudo-lesbo pics with drunk hill sluts? Joy.
I don't think Kelly Ann would enjoy rolling in the political mud day in and day out, but I would wager that she has her eye on Richard Leiby's j-o-b.
AMC hasn't been interesting, amusing, or informative at any point I can recall in Wonkette's past six months. So boot her.
KAC's own special trainwreck seems to be doing just fine on its own. It would be a mistake to jump to Wonkette (tho' that could explain some of those wonderfully muddled posts on Bolton lately.)
I like Greg Beato a lot. I think he's doing a fantastic job, and Wonkette has actually gotten much more entertaining in Ana's absence.
If Ana wants to stay away that's fine by me, especially if it means Greg continues to write it.
What's with the acronyms? Why not call them Cox and Collins?
are we sure that picture's kirsten dunst?
If anyone's checked out WS lately they'd realize KAC is about over -- she's jettisoned all but her sugar daddy and seems to have run out of friends to write about...she might be looking for a way off a sinking ship.
Kathyc me lil heartie...KAC is far from over. She only be jettisonning old ballast...Aye, bilge rats, all of em.
Arrrr, mark me word, our clever lil beauty, has plenty of dry powder, is unfurling fresh sails and prepping for a new and exciting launch, ya lubber.
Not that Cox's brain is any journalistic treasure trove, or that Beato's any better, but I just don't think Collins talks about ass-fucking enough to take the helm of the Wonkette ship.
Re-arrange the deck chairs, maybe...
I think she is cute...
