Socialites Sign Off

2005_0531_who_kelly.jpgJust a scant 11 days after some great press, it looks like Kelly Ann Collins has shut down the Washington Socialites. No specific reason is given; Kelly Ann states that she's shut down her blog "to free myself up for life's next adventure."

The Washington Socialites blog created both positive and negative buzz on the blogosphere and beyond. It landed Kelly Ann and former associate Windy on Z104's Matthew Blades Program but also brought on a spate of plagiarism accusations -- probably no fun for Kelly Ann.

So what does this mean for the D.C. blog scene? Will the Cleveland Park Men's Club pick up the gossip slack, or will some other blog (Pygmalion in a Blanket?) swoop in? What of self-professed Kelly Ann fans the Athens Socialites, who were coming to D.C. this summer partly because of their Socialites fandom? Answers are sure to emerge quickly in the blog world. One thing's for sure: the velvet rope scene so beloved by Kelly Ann and friends will continue, unabated. And we're sure Kelly Ann wouldn't want it any other way.

>> In a related note, Matthew Yglesias' blog on politics is shutting down as he has been absorbed into a new blogging consortium brought to us by Joshua Micah Marshall of Talking Points Memo.

Err..not to be more snyde than absolutely necessary, but...*what* velvet rope scene? This is still DC, after all.

Indebleu, Oya, Blue Gin, Eyebar... and there are probably more I'm missing. Certainly not the velvet rope scene of NYC or London, but it's here.

"So what does this mean for the D.C. blog scene?"

Who cares?

Kelly Ann was a trend setter, so maybe she sees impending oversaturation in a market or a waning fad...she is one smart and stylish cookie who is no doubt on to bigger and better things. :)

Trend setter? Um, yeah... No offense to KAC, but I think the trend had been set a bit before she got on the scene. Best of luck to her, though.

Michael, you need to get out of the house more often.

Chrisafer,

Not too sure on the dates, but she was posting in 2003, you?

She was a trendsetter? Not if you're talking about clothes. That girl could not dress!

And I was posting daily in 1997. I apologize for my part in contributing to the trend that resulted in WashingtonSocialites.com. Find new wanking material, CatCiao.

This was all predicted in the comments on her blog, after it started heading downhill in early May.

She got tired, in both senses.

Speaking for myself, I don't dress well anough to be a Socialite. Also, the Nabob wears knickers. Very un-Luke, I'm sure.

oh damn...where am i going to get the latest crap club news now
