More Washingtonian Staff Changes

2005_0817_washingtonian.jpgJust two days after the announcement that Garrett Graff was joining the Washingtonian as Editor-at-Large, it has been announced that Todd Kliman, award-winning food writer for the Washington City Paper, has been named Dining Editor for the city's monthly glossy. According to Don Rockwell, Kliman will

hav[e] editorial control over the upcoming Best 100 Restaurants and Cheap Eats issues. Thomas Head and Cynthia Hacinli will remain at the Washingtonian and work with Todd, who will begin his new job next month.

Kliman wrote Young & Hungry, one of the most consistently entertaining columns in D.C.'s only free weekly. Dining reviews came interspersed with fascinating profiles such as "The Regular," a profile of a Professor of Psychology that dined at Marcel's nearly every evening; and more recently "Michelin Man", about longtime D.C. food enthusiast Joe Heflin. Kliman's willingness to travel to the most expensive tables and cheapest corners of the Metro D.C. area made his column a weekly must-read for dining tips and insights, and his presence on newsprint will be sorely missed. We hope that he brings some freshness to the Washingtonian, which unlike the more egalitarian City Paper has traditionally served a more upscale demographic -- according to the press release, with an average household income of $185,800. Though we'll miss being able to read Professor Kliman's writing for free, we wish him luck in his new endeavor!

Kliman is a great food writer. Let's hope his influence makes the magazine interesting for those of us under 80.

This is his best move since giving me an "A" in College Writing. Good job, Prof. Kliman.
