Everybody Loves ... Rees?
Yeah, we didn't much want to come back to this either, but this is mildly amusing. Jonathan Rees, the mercurial candidate for the Ward 3 council seat, recently posted the following gem on Craigslist concerning his candidacy and his opponent, Sam Brooks:

On Friday, November 18, 2005, Ward 3 candidate Rees will have dinner in Sayerville, NJ, with the famed rockers from Georgia known as Collective Soul.
Candidate Sam Brooks got a no invite!
When people who are somebody chose you then you are a somebody, but when they don't then that says you are a nobody.
Let the public record speak for itself!
We were surprised by two claims made by Rees. First off, he claimed that the D.C. Hospital Association would be giving his campaign high ratings, a step short of a full endorsement. Seeming a little early in the campaign season to be handing out candidate scorecards or endorsements, we put in a quick call to the DCHA. According to the organization's president, while DCHA plans on eventually issuing its blessing to certain candidates, it won't be happening tomorrow. And as for Collective Soul, who are apparently friends of Rees, well, when was the last time a national recording artist weighed in on a local race? Do the boys from Atlanta have a particular interest in what happens in Ward 3? Can we expect Rees' campaign events to be headlined by the rockers? That'd be pretty cool.
So, who loves Rees?

I predict this thread will eventually degenerate into name-calling between posters and Rees' multiple "friends" and will be then be shut down by DCist.

But hopefully this time we can simply keep the comments fun and light-hearted. After all, I would have poked fun at any candidate that posted something like this.

do you seriously think rees posted this? after all the crap and claims of other people impersonating both brooks and rees on craigslist, don't you think there's just a small chance this is yet another hoax? especially with the inaccurate details and sophomoric writing? well, it's now been given legs...

Come on DCist. Since when did things posted on Craigslist become news to anyone besides the inarticulate whiners, lonely and socially inept twenty-somethings, and horndogs/potential sexual predators who post there? Every time you post something from criaslist your legitimacy as a decent source of information takes a pretty serious hit.
Well I guess it has been all of two or three days since there was a comment shitstorm around here ... I can understand why you felt the need to get another one started.
And as far as the content of this item goes . . . Collective Soul? Is he really bragging about going out to dinner with a washed-up bunch of AOR hacks like Collective Soul? I can't decide if that's more funny, or sad.

He just wants publicity and offers nothing in the way of serious ideas.
JRR's so obviously non compis mentis that it's
-almost- too cruel to poke fun at his grandiosity. He doesn't seem to have the vaguest awareness of how desperate and sad a self-portrait his ridiculous on-line rants create. I'd feel sorry for him if he weren't so darn MEAN and obnoxious. Actually, I think I do anyway. He really believes he's taking the world by storm, poor guy.

Could someone who reads this blog and goes to this conference tomorrow tell us if our friend Jon Boy here is actually rated "among the top candidates" by the #1 source for rating political candidates, the DCHA.
The whole hospital thing is a front for the DCHA, their real purpose is to endorse candidates, most famous picks: Mondale and Dewey!
I was specifically told by the DCHA that they had a meeting last week of its board, that they had done a score card, that I was up there at the top but whether or not that would be announced at the DCHA ball had not been decided or if they would early on endorse candidates. It may or may not happen tomorrow night.
Last time round, they took the same position and did endorse early on at their ball cadidates.
It was all up in the air and it may or may not happen tomorrow night.
As for a rocker endorsement. I see it more as a business deal where their ad is on one side, mine on the other and as I pointed out to you earlier, I know the Rolands brothers and have dined with them before.
The $125.00 tickets to the DCHA Ball was only offered up to people in the health care industry and not to any Tom, Dick or Harry unless you are a big wig.
Anybody wants to see my invite then I would be happy to email it to you but Martin has seen it.

Yes, it is me GOD. As a compassionate God, I wanted to help my children ease the burden of their time down there on earth so I decided to create artificial intelligence. I thought I saw that at least one other candidate had declared in Ward 3. Any truth to that?
Trapper John. There are 4 candidates for Ward 3. Yours' truly, Sam Brooks, the owner of the American Diner and some lady who will do a write in thing and appeal strict to the lesbian community but some say she is a spoiler put out there by the American Diner guy to water down the gay vote sort to say so Brooks doesn't make get it.
Only I am official the other three are announced but not officially in the race.

Compliments to you on your sense of diplomacy. To pronounce the Craigslist posting as "kind of second grade" is to flatter both the author's developmental maturity and his language skills.

DC is supposed to have the best educated people in the USA and 79% of the adult population in Ward 3 is said to hold a college degree if not an advance one. Is there a degree in common sense or classes in abusive ego management? If so, I think a lot of Washingtonians should sign up.
Right now, our city council is heading us back down the road to financial problems with their proposed Baseball stadium deal, National Capitol Medical Center, $1 billion dollar school tax proposal and a new psychiatric center.
Let Bud Selig build his own stadium as no other city would give him such a sweat deal as major league baseball has a mega fund that is used to help build stadiums, teams and help out lesser teams be able to afford better players;
Let Howard University take over DC General, remodel it and that will cost less than $40,000,000.00 with no subsidies from the government but accept payment via the DC Health Care Alliance as other hospitals do;
Let’s first find out where all that money in taxes we paid over the years and was budgeted for the upkeep and maintenance of our schools went before we have to pay for it all a second time; and
Let’s seize back part of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and remodel and extend our hand to our mentally ill who are primarily a good portion of the homeless population who walk our streets hungry, in bad health, not receiving monitored and needed medication that can lead them to becoming healthier and happy citizens. HELPING OUR FELLOW MAN WHO IS LESS FORTUNATE SHOULD BE FIRST AND FOREMOST AND TO ALLOW OTHERS TO MAKE A SMALL FORTUNE OFF THE MISFOURTUNE OF SUCH IS AN ABOMINATION BEFORE THE EYES OF GOD!
Didn’t our leaders read our population has gone down again last year? Didn’t they realize that our budget surplus is due to an over burden taxpayer and this is what is scaring away new businesses and residents and causing a never ending exodus of businesses and residents?
The press is not jumping on Mayor Williams or the City Council enough before the eyes of the people to point out the advancing dangers all of these programs if enacted/passed will bring upon the shrinking taxpayer base and how it will scare off businesses and people from locating here.
Our city council has become a knee jerk reactionary institution and I fail to see an ounce of common sense or long term planning coming from them and the media has if not a moral obligation, at least a vocational one to look harder than they are and report things to the people better than they do.
Mr. Gildenhorn told me that he is still thinking about it, has thrown out his interest to test the waters, that he has picked up all filing forms but he hasn't really decided if he will go for it or not.

So as of yesterday, Lord Jeffery Gildenhorn left me believing that it is not a done deal on his part.

Sam you are one of the most ignorant nerds I know and only a dumbass would so readily believe things you have no confirmation of.
