Weekly Music Agenda

2005_1128_andyzipf.jpgMonday: Canada's been busy lately, producing musical exports that bring the indie kids to their knees. Check out the latest offering from our neighbors to the north tonight, as Kiss Me Deadly comes to DC9, with the Spoils of NW and Five Four. $5, 9 p.m.

We've caught Andy Zipf (pictured) opening for a few shows in recent months, and his voice leaves us wanting more every time. Head to IOTA and see what we mean. $10, 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday: Whether he's making punk or dance music, spinning around DC for Blowoff, or writing WCW scripts, Bob Mould gives us something to talk about. Go see his solo show at The Birchmere. $20, 7:30 p.m.

If you haven't heeded our previous advice, we suggest you start listening up and catch Meredith Bragg and the Terminals at the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage. Escape the confines of club walls and catch one of D.C.'s most satisfying acts -- for free! 6 p.m.

2005_1128_aqualung.gifWednesday: Live piano pop in an art museum? What a feelin! Aqualung (pictured) at the Frances and Armand Hammer Auditorium of the Corcoran. Ticketmaster is being cryptic and telling us that tickets aren't available at this time, so that may be code for "this show is sold out." $23, 8 p.m.

In The Reins is a beautiful union between Iron & Wine and Calexico that's had the internet all a flutter (we'd say buzzing, but it's not really very buzzy music). The album is one of our favorites this year. We understand that the live show features sets from both, as well as collaboration, and it's pretty damn good. Perhaps Craig can make you one of the lucky ones with tickets to the sold out show. 9:30 Club, late show. 10 p.m.

2005_1128_damianmarley.jpgThursday: We couldn't get the title track off of Welcome to Jamrock out of our minds as it crept up on radio commercials many months ago. Time passed and the song started getting some airplay. An ever-growing list of tour dates, tv appearances and awards later, Damian "Jr Gong" Marley's bringing his unique reggae sound to 9:30, with XClan & Brother J. Another sold out show, but it's worth the effort to find tickets. 8 p.m.

DC9 has a great Thursday night lineup featuring Telograph, Lejeune and The Guins. The three are all notable local acts, playing post-punk indie rock, and continuing to stir interest among local scene watchers. $7.

Friday: It's big news for our little city. Euro-sensation Annie is dropping by the D.C.'s indie dance party of choice, BLISS, at the Black Cat. As if the stylings of DJ Will Eastman weren't enough to bring you out, this is definitely a not-to-be-missed event. $10, 9:30 p.m.

We've been listening to David Meyer's solo EP, and we like what we've heard: experimental blues with unique rhythm and sound. See him play alone and with his band The Cads at Staccato Bar. 10 p.m.

Saturday: We like Rogue Wave! We really really do. They cover our favorite Buddy Holly song and don't taint it -- that's saying something. Not to mention their new album and its copious iPod play of late. Do you like Rogue Wave? Find out at the Black Cat. $12, 9:30 p.m., with Mazarin and (The Sounds of) Kaleidoscope.

Sunday: The season is upon us. You've got plenty of holiday-themed concerts to choose from these days (perhaps one of these). It doesn't get much more wholesome, however, than singing along with the U.S. Marine Band at Wolf Trap. When was the last time you went to a cocnert that was B.Y.O. candle, bell and unwrapped toy? Free! 4 p.m.
