Mayor's Blog Roars Back to Life
In November we called it -- D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams' blog was officially dead. His staff pleaded otherwise, claiming it was only a matter of time before the mayor took to posting again. We waited. Nothing happened. We gave up.
But today we received word from up on high that the mayor's blog was showing a weak pulse. We jetted on over and yes, to our amazement, the blog was back in business.
Williams' first contribution since late September came by way of a post promoting baseball's positive impact on the city dated January 24, followed by a January 25 posting asking residents for their input on the controversial new $400 million hospital. Seeing that his long-comatose blog was receiving no comments, Williams pleaded today:
I know that over the last five or so months I've essentially killed this blog. I know that. I recognize that I'm attempting a resurrection here. But we've got big issues to discuss and this is an important forum to air them. What could be bigger than education, public safety, baseball, the proposed new hospital? Come on folks. It takes two people to have a conversation. We need your contribution. Now!While we're a big fan of Mayor Williams having a blog -- yes, we're suckers for that "conversation with the people" motif -- we'd like to see a little more variety, a little more personality, a little something more than the usual fare. How about a more personal insight into what it's like, on a daily basis, to be the mayor of a major metropolitan area? Or some real-time blogging of D.C. Council hearings? We can see it now:
Jeez. That guy Fenty is such a blowhard. Always huffing and puffing about how I haven't focused enough attention on the schools. Ha! Let's see how much attention he can give to city schools if as mayor he gets called to pointless hearings all the time. Either way, joke's on him -- I called WASA and told them to shut off his water, and a buddy at the DMV promised to have his car towed.Just a thought, Mayor Williams.

WTOP is reporting an agreement on the stadium. It's signed by Williams, Dupuy (MLB), and the mediator. According to the report all of Cropp's ideas were included in the agreement.
No vote from the council yet.
What's really funny are his resolutions, which include remembering that he's married...um, Mr. Mayor, is there something you're not telling us?
you can't have a blog without an rss feed.
well, i guess you can, but i won't read it.
not to be picky (ok, to be picky) you could not find a better stock photo? I know that it is not actually suppose to be him typing, but ...
Agreed ... but maybe the good Mayor, who's always been a bow-tie eccentric, is heading off in the direction of Michael Jackson eccentric. This photo could be a hint of big news about to break:
I saw Hizzoner at the Car Show on Wed. night. And all I saw was how he was aloof and disinterested when the common people would come up to shake his hand. I swear this guy acted like he didn't have an iota of interest in what the people were saying.
I'd love to see DCist look into William's record with meeting the people he serves- is he charismatic at all? Even if, have people seen him really relate to his constituents? Makes me wonder....
I don't suppose he's really motivated to try all that hard any more. Don't have to be a politician when you're not running for anything.
