How Big is DCist?

DCist Logo.JPGYes, this is a bit self-indulgent; please don't point this out to us.

Our commenters occasionally inquire about DCist's daily readership (most recently in the discussion following yesterday's Ticket Love post). It's not too tricky to find rough estimates on the interweb, but we decided to answer the question definitively, sort of. Because contests are fun, we're announcing our own personal jelly bean jar: in the comments section, leave us your best guess as to the number of daily unique site visits DCist receives (for the answer, we'll take last week's average). Be sure to plug in a valid email address, or we won't be able to get you your prize, a free DCist t-shirt. Multiple entries will be disqualified.

The contest will close at noon tomorrow. Let the guessing begin.

isn't it in direct proportion to how many aliases Mr. Rees has used on any given day? ah, what the heck... 57,123

:^)

I'm going to go with 67,412. If only I could get lucky with Powerball too...

32,000 is my best guess.

9,132

I'll claim a nice round number: 10,000 per day.

Hmm...lets' go with 13,724

This is going to turn in to the price is right. I'll say 22,217.

I am guessing...around a 85,000 a day. It could be more if you count the number of repeat viewings. But I believe that DCist gets the majority of its visits during the later mornings to 6pm, M-F. Or at least gets most of its visits during the traditional work day.

Oh and instead of a t-shirt, can I get a DCFC ticket instead?

In honor of the great town of State College PA (that's for you, Martin) my guess is 16,801

10,001!

25000

32222

2,000. Is this like Price is Right and everyone that goes over doesn't get the prize?

1 dollar Bob... just kidding I'd say 4000

14,632

(Oh, and I'm with Lisa on the prize. though I wouldn't scoff at a DCist T-shirt.)

My guess is 215,679

11,000

13,133

15,500

7,501

Damn you, AdamsMorganist!
:-)

I'm going to go with 8423.

For all of you guessing in the tens of thousands, Gawker gets about 30,000 a day. Is DCist more popular that Gawker?

16,002

9,870?

9, 472.

12,345

4500

9,999

5430?

24,600

5,850

7,987

4,001

10,234

21,000

10,433

Unique visits per day? I'll guess 1,500.

19,909

12,500

28,312

"DCist averages over 8,000-10,000 visitors each day". --From About DCist - Fun Facts.
Can that be my guess? :)

I'll guess 6,121 unique visitors considering that 'Fact' may be a bit old and prob doesn't account for unique visitors...

8,018

Adam: If it's a bit old, then wouldn't DCist be getting MORE visitors now?

I'd have to go with 13,567. Just because.

Ben -
Yes but I'm also trying to take into acct that that number probably is a reflection of total site visits not unqiue visitors. It's quite logical, natch.

7,567

8145

5206 per day.

TC

This is easy. The number of visitors DCist gets each day is determinable by the formula n=[T/(G+A)]B+W(D) where "T" is # of cubicles in Tyson's Corner, "B" is # of bike messengers on K street with Blackberries, "G" is # of Georgetown law students in class, "A" is # of AU students skipping class, "W" is # of hill staffers on cigarette breaks, and "D" is # of coffee bars in Dupont Circle with Wi-Fi.

So therefore, the number of daily unique site visits to DCist is exactly... "n"

I don't think you guys are that popular. My guess is about 4000 unique per day.

8999

8657

No reason.

12344 per day average

7505

Can we have a Gothamist LLC server problems per day contest too?

49,000.

respect.

7777 -a nice round number.

4815162342

3456

7421.4

7101.3 Yeah. You likey the .3. See, it's an average. No talk of rounding. I was going to take it out to two decimals placs, but then I was like "naw, I like you guys." And I do, too.

Okay, I populated my formula and ran the numbers, and I came to only 3550. So I must be forgetting something. I assumed 10000 cubicles in Tyson's, 800 GU law students in class, 300 AU students skipping, 90 bike messengers, 350 hill staffers, and 8 Dupont Circle coffee shops. Are those unrealistic?

I'd say 21,021 unique vistors a day

8729

Eleventy.

12,077

4705.

somewhere between 1 and infinity..

ok fine: 5,780

7210

I'm sayin' 800.

I admit it. I don't know jack about website usage patterns, nor am I particularly good with figures. This is based on a vague intuition. Like other decisions I've made based on intuition, it will no doubt end in tears and/or someone throwing a drink in my face.

Hmmm, 14,798

95,000

8,500

9,001

5712

7,000

19,000 would be my guess. Maybe up towards 22,000.

1337

But then again, it's the quality of the content here that matters, not who the hell reads it. Thanks for keeping me entertained at work.

25,000 unique visitors.
