A Depressing Day in the News

Headlines.JPGOn a snowy and frigid second day of Spring, we were looking to the media to provide us with some feel-good human interest stories that could serve to remind us that all hope is not lost. You know, something about puppies. Or Butterstick. An interesting newborn. Cherry blossoms. Free milkshakes. World peace. A handshake and apology between Iraq's Sunni Muslims and Shiite Muslims. A new owner for the Nats. Marion Barry really staying clean. Something. Anything.

Instead, at right is the list of headlines NBC 4 has chosen to highlight for the day. Beyond the news of the mayor's 2007 budget, it really is a depressing day for news, isn't it? C'mon guys, there has to be something fluffy that's making news today.

It is depressing that somebody escaped as authorities were trying to serve Warrant...now they're missing out on the Cherry Pie!

But at least there's some good news for higher education.

I cannot imagine that the budget will be anything but depressing too, I'm afraid.

Hey, if there was Butterstick news, we'd be all over it. I'm waiting for him to sign a contract to be the Nats new mascot.

People have been submitting cherry blossom images for a couple of weeks now on NBC4.com. That can get you through a frustrating day...
