Photo of the Day: April 6, 2006

PotD040606.jpg

Looking at that blue sky, it's easy to figure out why this shot from Flickr user MatthewBradley is today's photo of the day. From the info in the tags, it appears this is a shot of the Rhode Island Ave. Metro station. The color of the sky is offset nicely by the lights in the station's overhang as well as the bus stop shelter. Nice shot Matthew. This shot was taken on a Canon EOS 20D. You can find the EXIF data here.

Also, thanks for all the feedback in yesterday's post, both positive and negative. To address some of the issues raised in the comments...I was hesitant at first to go into too much detail as to why I choose each day's photo, because while I am an enthusiast, I am by no means an expert in photography and don't mean to come off like I think of myself as one. That said, from now on I will try and include something as to why each particular photo catches my eye. Also, I include the type of camera and EXIF data because each time I see a photo that I like, I check those things if they are available and I know others do too. As for runners up, you can always check the DCist tag pool. Today the pool has photos of John McCain and friends and some nice long exposures by *ohad.

Thanks for your explanation...much better!

Don't forget that EXIF also contains thumbnails, as Cat Schwartz embarissingly found out (Possibly NSFW).

Kyle, you're getting crazy on DCist. I count at least 11 uses of the letter "i" by itself. That's 10 more times than allowed per writer, per year on DCist.

Careful or you'll be doing photos of the week on DC Metblogs or something.

Not that we're against photos of the day on metblogs, we'd certainly love to have someone of Kyle's taste on board...any time you want to choose DC photos for us, Kyle, feel free, our flickr group is wide open :)
