Cutting Hair for a Good Cause
We run for good causes, we bike for good causes, we even drink for good causes. But one large-hearted local is letting you decide what his hair style should be, and for a good cause.
The man behind the idea has been growing his hair for the better part of the last 22 months, and given pictures he posted of himself on his website, he's got quite the mop of black hair going on. And for the sake of a variety of good causes, he's ready to part ways with it. To encourage donations to causes ranging from Doctors Without Borders to Save Darfur to Amnesty International, he's letting donors pick what his coming haircut will look like -- the comb-over/Gallagher, Krusty the Clown or Samurai Top Knot.
With the deadline for donations and votes fast approaching (he's given donors until 7 p.m. tonight), it looks like the write-in option "Just Plain Bald" might win by a hair, though Krusty the Clown is a close second. And for his efforts so far, he's raised $1,280 for a variety of causes.
We know we're a little late on this one, but we can't help but throw whatever weight we have behind this selfless effort. We're also putting our name and reputation behind the Krusty the Clown cut, though we demand that like the Simpsons character it's modeled after, it be green.
Cast your votes and donate money at The Hair Project.

I stood BEHIND that guy at the last Feist show at Black Cat. Not happy. At least I hope it was him...it would be sad if there was another dude out there with the same hair who wasn't growing it for a good cause!
Um, Erin, just wondering....if you were STANDING behind him, why didn't you just move to another place to stand? It's not like you had an assigned standing spot.
Are you sure that's not bachelor.com">DC Bachelor?
A friend of mine did a similar thing while a student at GW - http://www.buzzing4change.org/. I believe it was a Guinness World Record.
Good luck!
erin, sorry you had to stand behind my friend and his ginormous hair. if i remember right, we were off to the side, near the right-side column. anyway, rest assured, most of that hair will be gone tonight! donate and vote, peoples!
Thanks for the link, guys. It looks like we've gotten some folks to donate thanks to this and we're now up to $2,500!
i'm short, so it's tough going at any show to find a spot to see the stage. this is especially the case at indie shows were the guys are usually super tall and the girls super small. when we all breed, there will be a super race of middle-height, shaggy haired kids, with poor eyesight.
oliver- yes! i was right by the poll! thanks for the apology, but no worries, it's all about the music anyway. good luck to your buddy.
I saw this guy on the metro this morning. Looked to me like Krusty-style won!!
