While there are many blogs out there that are little more than self-indulgement ramblings or highfalutin attempts at taste-making, according to a post I just read on Boing Boing, we can actually use this populist technology to engender social change, or something like that. So if you were as bewildered and disappointed as we were by the results of the Post's Best Bets poll last year, we ask that you rally behind a noble cause and help us ensure that the world knows that DC has more to offer than Ikea and Fuddruckers.
There are a few new categories in this year's survey, including Best Chinese Food, Best Place to Take Out-of-Towners, and Best Vintage/Thrift Store, which I have a sinking feeling will be clinched by Urban Outfitters, if last year's trend continues. The poll is currently in the nomination phase, which will continue until June 2nd, at which point the actual voting will begin. You'll need an (easily registered) washingtonpost.com account to participate.

Folks, I beg of you: nominate Colorado Kitchen for best burger. It's not in the little dropdown, but put it in anyway. God Help Us if Fuddruckers makes the winners list again.
Shouldn't people who've had the Colorado Kitchen burgers be the ones to vote for them? I mean, they're *probably* good...but it's not that great a burger if you can only eat it on Thursdays and Sundays. That said, Fuddrucker's is pretty boring...but some people like the free cheese/spit sauce blend.
But a bigger point is that at some point, national chains shouldn't receive promotion in local best-of lists. I mean, Mc Donald's has pretty tasty fries (even if they're not really made of food). But we don't need to be made more aware of these places, since they're already everywhere.
Best Chinese? come on... there is an apalling lack of good Chinese food in DC. Best Asian/Thai/Indian/Vietnamese, sure, but best Chinese????
