The Weekly Feed: Gene Wilder is the Best Wonka Edition

I know we posted about this earlier this week, but it's totally worth revisiting.

Sing to the Tune of "I Want it Now" by Veruca Salt in 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory'

I want a feast!
I want a ball feast!
Free beer and bull's nuts
Crown royal and bull's nuts,
Can't eat enough bull's nuts,
Give them to me now.

Fifteen's the fee
Saturday at eight
Testicle Fair
At the Hall Legionnaire
They remove all the hair! And,
Give in to balls now.

Northeast Market Rundown
The Post's Food Section really busts out this week with one of the best articles in a long time. Walter Nicholl's piece and the accompanying map on the Capitol City Market was informative and useful. We hope it also drives some foot traffic to the area, which is under constant threat from developers.

It's not as if the Post was the first to the scene here, though; Blogistan has been happily traipsing to Sam Wang's for years. If you're interested in heading up to the land of goat meat and cheap veggies, take a look at the following sites before you go:

• Culocho from A Capitol Life has a post about her trip to Litteri's and the Farmer's Market.
• Frozen Tropics goes to Young's Deli, Sam Wang's, US Beef (which I gather is under demolition now?), and Kang Farm (my personal favorite).
• Richard Layman posts about the historical value of the area, as well as some of the speculation surrounding its future at Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space.
• Daily Candy recounts a sausage fest they had at the market
• And of course, yours truly covered the places in NoFlo way back in March 2005.

While most of the stores are open only until mid-afternoon, it's worth a trip over on a "sick" day to see what's to be had. I'd definitely drop by Young's for some tasty Pho, but skip the sandwiches at Litteri's unless you like your turkey on a hoagie roll with yellow mustard, mayo, an anemic tomato, and shredded lettuce.

Farmers' Market Brief
Farmers' markets here in the District (and I suppose in the suburbs, too), are in full swing now. The H St. NE FreshFarm Market kicks off on Saturday for their first market this year. Chef Stephane Lezla from Montmartre will hold a cooking demonstration at 11 a.m. The market is held on the 600 block of H St. NE.

I'm a sucker for a good Farmer's market. The one closest to my home in Riverdale is pretty anemic, but the Takoma Park one is my favorite in the area. Every once in a while I trek up to Baltimore on Sunday for the one that they have underneath the JFK Expressway. It's a good bit cheaper than Takoma Park, has more stands / better variety, and the setting reminds me of mad max or blade runner.
