Weekly Music Agenda
TUESDAY
>> The Black Cat's making good use of its Backstage this week. Before you go check out the Alphabetical Order tonight, read DCist's interview with the band and see where their heads were about a year ago. Any band that gives their site a dot-org domain is worth at least a cursory glance. With Omega Band, $5, 9 p.m.
>> If you buy your music at Starbucks, you may be one of the many that sold out tonight's Little Willies show at the Birchmere. The band consists of Norah Jones, Richard Julian, Lee Alexander, Jim Campilongo and Dan Rieser covering Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Townes Van Zandt. Let's face it -- there's something there for everyone. 7:30 p.m.
>> If you've got a soft spot for INXS, even in light of that whole reality-TV thing, then tonight's your chance to pay lots of money and sit relatively far away from them at DAR. I ain't mad at cha DAR; I'm just bitter that my balcony seats denied me Julian Casablancas' touch last week. Tickets run from $45 to $75, 7:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
>> Take note: If you had tickets to see Maria Rita at the Birchmere Wednesday or Thursday, both shows have been cancelled.
THURSDAY
>> If you've got a question for Eef Barzelay, now's the time to see the Clem Snide front man at Iota. $12, 9 p.m.
>> Up-and-coming local rockers the Third Programme take to the Black Cat's Backstage, as Sarah Azzara launches her new album. Guys, we'll talk about the British spelling later. $6, 9 p.m.
FRIDAY
>> I'm sure that David Allan Coe's very long career has had a lot of high points and referenceable moments, but to me, he'll always be the guy that sings "Fuckin' in the Butt," adding to the irreverence of power-hour CDs throughout my college career. See what else Mr. Coe's got up his ass sleeve at the State Theater. $21, 7 p.m.
>> Or you can stick to the District and try and find some naughty swear words at DC9's Liberation Dance Party. $5.
SATURDAY
>> For our money, the most exciting show of the week comes to us from the freedom-hating streets of Paris, as pop rockers Phoenix try and wow us one more time. In the meantime, if you can find their video for "Too Young" somewhere online (which we haven't been able to do yet this morning), it'll definitely put a bounce in your step. At the 9:30 Club, $15, 9 p.m.
>> Electrotease is far too hip to celebrate their third birthday with cupcakes and pointy hats. Instead, they opt for DJ Geo from Misshapes, DJ Michelle Mae from Weird War and Make Up, their resident DJ Ca$$idy, and -- get this -- free Sparks and entry before 10 p.m.! $10 after, at DC9.
SUNDAY
>> If you aren't familiar with the woozy Swedish stylings of the Concretes, you have the good fortune of getting to know all eight members of this band (that considers itself a collective) this Sunday at the 9:30 Club. In the meantime, take a crash course on the Concretes and pick up a copy of Lay Your Battle Axe Down. The dreamy cover of the Rolling Stones' "Miss You" is worth the price of purchase. $15, 7 p.m.
