Weekly Music Agenda

MONDAY
>> You scream, I scream, we all scream for British and 70s-inspired rock. Double your pleasure tonight at the Black Cat, as The Points (Fredericksburg's answer to Kings of Leon) and The Cuts (think The Cure meets The Thrills) work the back stage. $7, 9 p.m.

>> We caught The Parachute Musical a while ago, opening for Deleted Scenes (who you may have seen at last week's Unbuckled). They turn out impressive piano pop, with a charismatic vocal lead. See for yourself tonight at DC9, where they're playing with Stamen & Pistils and Psychic Hearts. $7.

>> If you've got any sort of penchant for The Silos, Pleasure and Pain-era Ben Harper or the standup bass, look no further than Iota tonight. Tom Freund, $10, 8:30 p.m.

TUESDAY
2006_0605_wolfmother.jpg>> Bluzz darlings and Aussie sensations Wolfmother sold out the Black Cat, so if you snoozed you lost.

>> Catch We Are Wolves for some punchy, punky rock at DC9. With The Roosevelt and The Explorers Club (not to be confused with the Super Adventure Club). $8.

>> I'm not sure how I feel about this whole "New Cars" thing, but they're playing under the stars tonight at Wolftrap, with this other band -- you may have heard of them. The weather is mild and your cooler is calling. $25 to $42, 8 p.m.

WEDNESDAY
>> Strathmore kicks off its free Outdoor Concert Series this week with the American Symphonic Clarinet Choir. The schedule for the remaining summer months crosses genres and looks to be a great addition to the D.C. free summer music scene. 7p.m.

THURSDAY
>> Whether you took a shine to K.T. Tunstall by way of American Idol or from the guy who runs the guitar shop in Richmond (he's a big fan), we hope you put some forethought into your ticket purchases, as the show's sold out. Doors at 7:30 p.m.

>> More bad news for music fans this Thursday -- the hip hop artist that's hot on everyone's tongues these days, Van Hunt, has cancelled his show at Black Cat tonight. We can't suss out a cause, so if you know, feel free to let us know in the comments.

>> Never fear -- good live music is still in reach. Our city's own The Caribbean, the subject of one of our first Three Stars. A favorite of DCist Ryan, they'll be playing the back stage with The Foreign Press. $7, 9 p.m.

>> "One of the most influential bluegrass bands of the last 30 years," the Seldom Scene visit Nottoway Park tonight. Where's Nottoway Park, you're wondering? It's an FCPS public park in Vienna, host to many a little league game and class picnic. Apparently, this is part of the new Nottoway Nights series. My hometown keeps getting slightly cooler all the time. 7:30 p.m., free.

2006_0605_collectivesoul.jpgFRIDAY
>> Summertime in
FxVA means the Celebrate Fairfax fair. This year's lineup includes solid locals Getaway Car and Welbilt, as well as national superstars Collective Soul. If you're scouring the crowd for their number one fan, he and his friends will probably be backstage rubbing elbows and RTFO.

>> If you're having a hard time deciding between dedicating your Friday night to rockabilly or surf rock, shoot down the middle and check out Southern Culture on the Skids at 9:30. $15.

>> Velvet Lounge is featuring a lineup of some of our favorite local acts this weekend with The Dance Party, The Alphabetical Order, Bound by Substance and The Sentiment. We highly reccomend it.

SATURDAY
>> Folk favorite Mason Jennings is at 9:30 tonight with Toddy Thompson. $17.

>> It's a weekend, so there's no rush hour traffic to keep you from Nissan Pavillion to see Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks and.... Trey Anastasio? $32.50 to $75, 7:30 p.m.

>> Pack up your kids and get your squeal on, as AOL presents Hilary Duff in the third annual Kids Extravalooza this Saturday on L'Enfant Plaza. Free, 4 p.m.

>> Remember college? moe at Wolf Trap, $25 to $35, 6 p.m.

SUNDAY
>> It's a hipster-off! Will the coolest of the cool flock to the 9:30 Club for long time favorites Eels with ironically young bluzzers Smoosh, or to the Black Cat for Delaware sensations The Spinto Band, touring with Dr. Dog and The Lovely Feathers? It's a tough call, but I'll be waiting with baited breath at the Cat to hear my song (at a bargain basement price of $10, compared to the somewhat steep $25 to see Eels).

>> Were you planning on a trip to Alexandria to catch Devendra Barnhardt and the Magic Numbers? Think again -- the show's been cancelled.
