V Fest Becomes a Reality

2006_0703_Vfest.JPGA few weeks ago, we told you about the cumulating evidence that Virgin Mobile will be bringing its popular European music festival, V Fest, to the states. The formal announcement has been made:

The creators of England's phenomenally successful Virgin Festival will be announcing the debut of the American version. The Virgin Festival By Virgin Mobile will be held at Pimlico Race Course, home of the Preakness Stakes, in Baltimore, Maryland on September 23, 2006.
The booking philosophy of the Virgin Festival takes a decidedly different approach from most, featuring an exclusive collection of only the absolute best acts available. The only band to be revealed to date is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The remainder of the lineup will be announced July 10, and promises to turn heads with acts not appearing at other festivals.

The sleuthy TUL and a commentor named Speedy have reason to believe that The Raconteurs, Gnarles Barkley, The Who, the Flaming Lips, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Thievery Corporation, and the Arctic Monkeys will join the Chili Peppers in Pimlico this September. TUL also notes that the first day of the festival lands on Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, which is a shame for rock 'n' roll loving Jews everywhere. We'll keep you posted about any more additions, announcements, or (*gasp*) ticket sale information.
