A Site Announcement
Item: Dear readers, the time has come for this editor to move on. As of today, I'll be stepping down as an Editor-in-Chief of DCist, and turning my set of reins over to Sommer Mathis, lately our Arts Editor, who'll be running things alongside Martin. In August, I'll be moving back to London, my home away from home, to pursue a PhD in Economic History. The goal is to make myself permanently unemployable, so I have time to focus fulltime on the blogosphere.
D.C. has been my home, off and on, for nearly five years, and I do not imagine this is the last she, or you all, have seen of me (for one thing, I'll still be posting over the next month). In the meantime, however, I am very sad to be leaving the city and this blog, leaving all of the fantastic writers I've met and worked with through DCist, leaving all the readers and commenters with which I've tangled, leaving all the people that make Washington the city to which I always return. Thank you all for your patience with me and the insights into the city you've given me.
The site is in excellent hands. Martin, of course, will remain on the masthead, continuing to shape the site for the better as he's done for over a year. And Sommer is one of the finest writers and editors I've come to know in this city; I'm excited to see how she changes and improves DCist.
That's it for this little bit of self-indulgence. Thank you, D.C., for everything.

Good luck in London!
:^(
Best of luck to you! Though we have differing views, I'm going to miss my NE spokesman...If you ever run into Stefan Szymanski, tell him I said hi.
Going to miss you. The best to you
Good luck in London! I love that town probably more than DC although the exchange rate is enough to bankrupt you.
Thanks for all of your work on DCist!
Good luck with grad school!
What a shame for DC! Your wit and excellent writing will be sorely missed. Good luck across the pond!
Congrats Ryan and good luck in London. See what being a pesky DCist commenter can lead to?
Nice work here. You'll be missed. Best of luck to you.
I can't say that I've always agreed with your editorial decisions or the way you've sometimes reacted to well-meaning reader critique. But... being an -ist editor isn't a particularly thanks-ridden job, much less a well compensated gig (understatement), and yet you've put a lot of labor into a site that I'm thankful remains running strong. So, thank you for that, and good luck with your future studies.
You definitely have your strong opinions Ryan (and I agree with the above post, you seldom take criticism well), but I guess thats why you write and voice your opinions: you care about those issues. Thats a hell of a lot more than some people can say. So, good luck, enjoy, and if I may say so, I always thought you were really hot! All respect to the wife, of course!
