Photo of the Day: July 20, 2006

Everyone who listens to their iPod or MP3 player of choice is guilty of zoning out from time to time and not paying attention to their surroundings. Luckily for us, photographers such as Flickr user techne are there, with shutter poised, ready to pounce should the perfect photo opportunity arise. And when it does, we get results like this. I particularly like her use of the top of the bench as a leading line to the two subjects. This shot was taken on a Canon EOS Digital Rebel. You can find the EXIF data here.

Damn, I don't know if I'd have my laptop out at a Metro stop unless I didn't mind it getting stolen. That looks like it might be a Mac though, so in that case, steal away!

What Metro system are you riding, Pix? I've been riding nearly every day for ten years and I've never seen a theft in the system. I left a briefcase on a train once, and retrieved the whole thing with all its contents from Lost & Found several days later (admittedly, a laptop was not among the contents). Obviously crimes happen occasionally (that girl with the iPod last year), but snatching and grabbing of valuable items, especially deep inside a station rather than outside or on the train, is hardly a major problem.

Great pic, by the way.

The guy on the right is kinda hot... Looks a little like James Van der Beek (sp?)
