Get Your Geek On At Warehouse
See what happens when you give the guys picked last for dodge ball a microphone and some stage time. Tonight at 10:30 p.m., Warehouse Theatre is hosting Geek Comedy Tour 3000 — the nerdcore musings of twelve local guys, plus solo comedian Herbie Gill. Naturally, these grey matter-types wouldn’t have anything better to do on a Friday night.
And admit it, neither do you. They speak to the closet geek inside us all. They’re the techies who might edit Wikipedia pages, identify the weight of a praying mantis or foretell the release date of the next Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. They make smart person jokes, essentially, and since Washington prides itself on being a smart person town, maybe we should go and laugh?
Geek Comedy Tour 3000 includes a motley crew of locals, many of whom have performed all over the Baltimore-Washington area. Chris Barylick is the founder of the group and self-proclaimed king of nerd trivia — the geek of all geeks, you could say. Under him is Justin Schlegel, a man who sprinkles methamphetamines on his cereal. Apparently, it helps him relax. Jimmy Meritt camped outside Connecticut Avenue’s Uptown Theatre for eleven days, as all dedicated Star Wars: Episode 3 fans did. He was dressed up as Grand Moff Tarkin, naturally. Evan “Shaggy” Valentine, not to be mistaken for crime-solving Norville Shaggy Rodgers, won the Loyola Last Comic Standing competition.
Still less than a movie ticket, admission is only $7. And includes an all-night $3 Yuengling special. As geeks ourselves, we support our geekish brethren.
