Weekly Music Agenda
TUESDAY
>> If you like your one-man emo outfits, head to the Black Cat to catch Owen (a.k.a., Mike Kinsella from American Football). Playing with Joan of Arc and Our Brother the Native. $10, 9 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
>> DC Griots, the self-proclaimed only underground music showcase in the city, are hosting this month's offering at DC9. Featuring Opus Akoben, C. Love & Clyentell, O.U.O and Jesse Tittsworth "on the wheels," DC Griots promises not to be pigeon holed, offering up rock, hip-hop and anything else in between. $2 (yes -- seriously -- $2!)
THURSDAY
>> Is anyone else completely incapable of thinking about George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars without thinking of Jeremy Piven in a frat house? If you gotta have that funk, head to the 9:30 Club. $40
>> Celebrate the release of constant local giggers Running With Scissors' new album, Smiles of a Certain Kind at the Velvet Lounge. With New York's Me Talk Pretty.
>> Put on your hot pants and your emancipating shoes, cause MiMi's coming to town. Mariah Carey's at the Verizon Center, with tickets ranging from $19.50 to $125. 8 p.m.
FRIDAY
>> The Black Cat is 13! While it's busy hoping its mom doesn't see those pictures the Velvet Lounge left on its MySpace page, you can help ring in the festivities. Free, main stage, 9:30 p.m.
>> If you went to a Virginia state college in the early 2000s, chances are you got live at the VACO show a time or two. This week, the 9:30 Club brings us two nights of Virginia Coalition. I wonder if a bonafide club will have that same magic as a frat basement... $17.50 each or $30 for both.
>> The Washington Social Club rubs elbows with Arlington at Iota. With Run Silent Run Deep and recent Three Stars featured band, The Dance Party. $10, 9:30 p.m.
>> DCist's Matt Sedlar loved their EP, and got to know them in June's Three Stars. Now's your turn. Catch The Roosevelt at the Velvet Lounge, with The Object Lesson and Vandaveer.
SATURDAY
>> Tokyo-born DJ Krush is coming to the 9:30 Club with his turntables in tow. It's a post-VACO late show, so don't miss your afternoon nap. $25, 11 p.m.
SUNDAY
>> The twice-delayed Snow Patrol show is set to finally take off this Sunday at 9:30 Club. Any bets on whether or not the boys from the British Isles will make it to town in one piece?
>> Guitar wunderkind Kaki King visited us last at Jammin' Java. She's working her way closer to the city, as this time she's at Falls Church's State Theater. $15, 6 p.m.
