Craigslist, Saving Lost Puppies One at a Time
For all our snark here at DCist, you have to know we're big fans of
the Internet. So on this gray and gloomy day, we thought we'd bring you
a short but sweet tale of the power of the Internet to save puppies.
Because, really, what else is it good for if it can't save helpless,
adorable animals? Nothing, that's what.
Wednesday night, a friend of DCist Amanda's was driving along in Falls Church when she almost hit a dog at the intersection of Routes 7 and 50. The dog didn't have tags but looked like somebody's pet, so the finder did what anybody would do: she took photos with a digital camera, posted them on Flickr, got her friends to write pleading blog posts and published the information on craigslist.
You know how this ends. Just minutes later, somebody on craigslist posted a plaintive lost dog ad, and voila, (wo)man and best friend were reconnected.
What I really thought was amazing about this whole thing was the general Lost & Found section on craigslist, which, upon browsing, almost convinces one that humanity is not totally effed. People are posting found kittens, found digital cameras, found rings; I mean, if I found a kitten, a digital camera, and a ring -- especially all at once -- I'd take that shit and run to Mexico. But there are still good people out there, using the Internet to reconnect folks with their prized possessions. Hooray. Have you ever had success with the Lost & Founds on craigslist? C'mon, give us some more redemptive stories in the comments.

yes, internet lost and found is wonderful... but what i want to know is why people who profess to be pet lovers are letting their beloved pets run around outside without tags
Hooray for Craigslist! Over the summer, I found a non-feral kitten (you cat owners out there know how to tell the ferals from the pets- the latter are nice and come running up to you, looking for lovin'. Feral cats try and sratch your eyes out). In any case, I took him home with me, knowing that my tiny apartment was already infested with (my roommate's!)cats and so I couldn't keep him. Well, I posted all over the place, looking for his owners, but it's likely someone just abandoned him. I posted on craigslist, looking for a new owner, and so many people stepped up. Kitty is now safe and happy with a new human who really wanted a companion, cuz she just moved to DC and was lonely. Hooray for pets! And hooray for Craigslist dissmemination of pets!
Really it's the best. Craigs (and others list them - but their aren't many) and the good people who help out with the animal postings are just so wonderful. You're right - Hooray for Craiglist!
