Morning Roundup: Dark Days Edition
At Least That Was Over Quickly: Like pulling off a bandaid, right Mr. Fenty? Indeed, the D.C. Council voted yesterday to reject Adrian Fenty's stadium parking plan by a slim margin, marking the first major political defeat for the mayor-to-be. So, where does this leave us? As Ward 2 council member Jack Evans told the WaPo, "We're back to square one." And, in danger of running out of time to implement a plan, a situation which could result in the District being responsible for massive legal damages to the Nationals if it fails to meet its parking obligations under the lease agreement. Don't miss the money quote at the end of the story, when Mayor Williams compares the difficulty level of getting the stadium parking project underway to that of the pyramids and Stonehenge.
Crime Emergency Extended, Again: The Examiner has the goods on the future of the Crime Emergency legislation, which has once again been extended for 90 days. Actually, for about 12 hours yesterday, the Crime Emergency had expired and ceased to exist, only to be resurrected later in the afternoon. Looks like Fenty managed a minor victory with this one, though, as the minor curfew laws have been repealed this time around. So get ready for some hot teen party action from 10 p.m. to midnight this weekend, D.C. Aw, yeah.
Briefly Noted: Gallaudet trustees split on new president ... Roast for Mayor Williams gathered powerful for comedy ... Many Md. high school grads not prepared for college ... Chillum hostage situation ends.
This Day in DCist: In 2005 we came up with our own list of new vocab words for WMATA and shrugged our shoulders at a certain band with buzz, and in 2004 we noted inspections of off-campus housing at Georgetown.

Whatever happend to moving off daylight savings day a month earlier or later?
RJ, I don't think that takes effect for a while (several years, maybe?).
Also, doesn't the time change usually take effect at 2am, not midnight? Not to nitpick or anything...
I love this time of year. My natural body clock is set to the fall/winter cycle, and it never changes. This time of year I'm happier, better rested. It's the total opposite of seasonal affective disorder for me. I hate summer (in DC esp.). July/August are the months when I want to go postal or jump off a bridge.
Now bring on the snow, I'm ready for skiing.
daylight savings time dates change in march 2007
It's actually "daylight saving time." Don't know where that extra "s" comes from, but people seem to almost universally tack it on.
I prefer it to be dark in the morning and light in the evening. I don't know why, but somehow it seems more ... er ... natural or something.
WTF?
It definitely helps with the whole illusion of getting off work and thinking, "Hey, I didn't just totally waste my day."
WTF is all THAT about?????
Meds, or really, the lack thereof.
I'm bummed out. We were having such a nice conversation about daylight saving time. And then our thread gets highjacked by crazies. :(
Bill - I too feel more emotionally balanced in the fall and winter seasons. Weird.
That website was good for a laugh. Thanks!
Booooo to the mod, you have to let more people experience the unhinged, depravity of Rees.
Rees didn't make this shit jump off--he's just a street reporter. The Eazy-E of Ward 3.
