Rain or shine, this weekend brings opportunities to eat and drink aplenty, particularly if you’re planning on hanging out in the ‘burbs.

Taste of Bethesda
On Saturday from 11-4 along Norfolk, St. Elmo, Cordell, Del Ray, and Auburn Avenues, sample eats from 50 restaurants around Bethesda. Four tickets are $5. Jason Storch on DC Foodies says it’s a “time when hundreds flock to the streets of Bethesda to sample treats from the local restaurants like crispy samosas, soft papusas, and your typical peanut sauce encrusted chicken satays.” Maybe if we’re lucky, Ray's the Classics will represent. Check out this week’s Sietsema review, in which he anoints the restaurant with 2½ stars in this Sunday’s Post. Gushes Tom, “A terrific Arlington steakhouse opens a winning new outpost in Silver Spring.”

Cap City Oktoberfest
Competing for our attention tomorrow is the Capitol City Brewing Company Oktoberfest at the Village of Shirlington in Arlington from 12-7. Admission is $20. And the beer list is phenomenal, including Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale, Abita, Brooklyn Lager, North Coast Red Seal, and Hennepin. Lots of people are looking forward to the Dogfish Head brands, in particular. Need a primer? ConsultTim Carman's "Doggin' It" in this week's City Paper.

Del Ray’s Art of the Avenue
Head down the road from Octoberfest to admire baked goods in the pie-baking contest or peruse art on the avenue. Don't forget to grab yourself a muffaletta, some jambalaya, mini-crab cakes or butternut squash soup outside Evening Star Café. Menu Items range from $2.75 to $6.50.

Also stop by for a sneak preview of desserts from buzz, the bakery and dessert lounge opening in the neighborhood at the end of the month. Chef Lisa Scruggs has whipped up chocolate biscotti and mini cupcakes to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Comfort Food Alert
If "Festival Cooks Keep Traditions Alive" in this Wednesday's Washington Post made you crave Mediterranean comfort food, check out the St. Katherine Annual Fall Greek Festival in Falls Church for some dolmades, moussaka, and Loukoumades, if you’re lucky.

And don’t forget...
If you’re in the mood for a pig roast or chili cookoff, find out the details on the 2nd Annual Rockwell Fall Picnic that's scheduled for next Sunday, October 15 in Fort Run Park. And these are just two genres Rockwellians will cook up for Sunday's feast. If you plan to attend, this week may be a good time to test your recipes and decide on your contribution. Even if your cooking skills need some serious work, they’re still seeking volunteers to bring bottled water. Be sure to RSVP via the thread.
