Artomatic Online
If you were upset at the announcement that this year's Artomatic would be pushed back to 2007 for lack of a venue, it's time to wipe away the bitter tears and get your most fabulous pieces ready for some judging. In light of the delay, galleries around the area have offered to host shows for artists who planned on participating in the festival. Early next year, these venues will be home to a preview of sorts, not to mention a promoter for artists who may not have otherwise had an opportunity to be shown in a gallery.
Artomatic has joined with ArtDC.org to collect entries for the late winter shows. Artists need to register at the site and upload up to three images of their artworks to the online gallery. You have until Wednesday, December 6 to submit your files, after which the galleries will make their picks on a rolling basis. The online gallery is already open for entries, so make sure it's on your to-do list for the weekend.

You know that whole online gallery at artDC.org is pretty difficult to figure out. It certainly isn't very user friendly. And yesterday after creating my user galleries and uploading stills from videos and performance projects -- I decided that I was maybe supposed to put them into the Artomatic folder and not my personal folder. Which I'll be darned if I can figure out how to do that or move the ones that have to the "right" place. They need a usability engineer or better instructions or at the very least some clarification.
We're glad you tried to upload your images. Appologies if the instructions weren't clear.
There's a full list of instructions here: http://artdc.org/forum/index.php?page=12
1. after you've registered on Artdc.org
2. Post about your self in the Artist's board
3. Click the gallery link on the side bar
4. Click 'upload files' (you must be logged in).
5. Select the number of upload (limit 3 per album)
6. Select the files to upload.
7. enter information about your files.
-at this point you select which album you want to upload into (for each file).
-Select the 2-d, 3-d, other, music, what ever relates to your work (not your personal album!).
Email me, and I can move them from your personal folder.
Wow Jesse, Friendster this isn't. I understand that you are volunteer run, but that's a SEVEN STEP process. I've done all of them (I think, perhaps I didn't create an artists board, but I've been a registered member for over a year.) And added the uploaded files with descriptions last night to my personal folders. And that's where I've stopped. It appears (from the email that I got from Art-o-matic) that whoever has images in their galleries will be automatically considered. The question then is what the purpose of the Art-o-Matic folders are. You seem to indicate that things need to be moved there, but that's not clear from the DCist post above or from the list from Art-o-Matic email. I'll contact you off list, but wanted to reply here in case others were as confused as I am.
Uh. Jesse, I can't figure out how to email you. So for the time being, my Member Gallery is listed under xtopher1974DC -- if you want to copy those items to Art-o-Matic folder under Installation or Performance, feel free.
DC1974 there's an email form on the home page at the bottom of the sidebar.
It's positive energy like yours which keeps us going.
When you uploaded your images you selected your personal album, not the AOM albums.
As Posted above,
"-at this point you select which album you want to upload into (for each file).
-Select the 2-d, 3-d, other, music, what ever relates to your work (not your personal album!)."
DC1974, we'll move your images...
To those that post images, please read the instructions, or contact us through the site, and we'll be glad to help out!
I left out your question about the Artomatic albums.
The venues will look at the Artomatic Albums. They are welcome and free to browse the other member galleries, but the majority of their energy will be spent in the AOM categories / albums.
Also about moving the images, if you post your images as per the instructions, you won't have to move anything. When entering the information about your pics, be sure to select one of the artomatic albums.
If you misplace an image, you are welcome to contact me through the email form on the home page.
We'd love to see everyone's work! Post your images by the 6th! And go to the AOM happy hour!
