Win Tickets To See Robbers On High Street

robbers_on_high_street.jpgThe only thing DCist likes more than going to concerts is giving away concert tickets to our readers. And since it's the holiday season and all, we are in the giving mood. We have a pair of tickets to see Robbers On High Street this Thursday at the Rock and Roll Hotel to give away to a lucky reader. Also on the bill are Monopoli and the hotly tipped Chicago outfit Office.

The Robbers released a new EP last month and are doing a handful of East Coast dates to support it. Here's a preview for your listening pleasure:

Benjy Ferree at Rock N Romp.

Best show I saw this year was a tie between the North Mississippi Allstars and Robert Randolph, both at 930 Club. Incredible stuff.

The Mountain Goats at the Black Cat

The best concert of 2006 that I saw was The Twilight Singers in Nashville.

Run for Cover at Black Cat

The National at the Black Cat. Seeing them live brought a different appreciation to the music.

Tie - Go! Team at BC and Black Keys at 930

Tie - Go! Team at BC and Black Keys at 930

Drive By Truckers at 9:30 Club

The Pogues at 9:30 club.

Centro-matic at the RnR Hotel

This probably doesn't count in some people's books because it was free, but I was quite taken with the Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars at the Kennedy Center. I guess other people were impressed as well, because they were booked a few months later to play the 9:30 Club.

the national -- i saw them in the spring.

Washington Social Club at the Black Cat

wilco at the 930 club, an amazing band at an equally amazing venue!!!

j spaceman (of spiritualized) at queen elizabeth hall in london

can we win the chance to give that guy a haircut too?

best performances/shows(s):

shellac at the black cat
wilco @ 9:30
mission of burma @ black cat
mission of burma @ pitchfork
art brut's may show @ black cat
man man @ pitchfork
beauty pill @ iota
baby killer estelle @ fort reno

Hank Williams III & Assjack at the Black Cat. There were broken bottles all over the floor and it was the most excited crowd I've ever seen. Plus, 2 bands with the same members playing different styles of music back to back?! A total of 3+ hours of high energy performance AND special guests!!? Now that's what I call a good show!

Broken Social Scene at 930

ah. the best concert this year thus far has got to be built to spill at the troc in philly. not because they played an awesome set (sadly, they didn't), but because i sprained my ankle at the show in front of lots of people, and to this day it still hasn't healed properly. i guess i was built to spill.

runner up: konono no.1 at black cat during that heat wave in the summer, and the ac broke at black cat. even my arm hairs were sweating.

Pet Shop Boys @ DAR Constitution Hall - and I only went at the last minute on a whim

belle and sebastian & broken social scene w. ted leo.

june 2006 cat power in philadelphia. breathtaking!

Everyone know's the best show of the year was DCist's Unbuckled 4 featuring, Middle Distance Runner, The Vita Ruins, and the DJs from Bluestate.

cat power in philadelphia in june. breathtaking!

said nothing about the best show having to be in the DC area....so for me, it was hands down radiohead at bonnaroo back in june

Regina Spektor @ 9:30 Club was undoubtedly the best!

TV on the Radio at Sonar in Baltimore.

The Long Winters -- Sonar in Baltimore

Surprise beck show at black cat.. if I had been there :(

In reality: Death Ships at Iota.

The Hold Steady at The Black Cat

One magical night in late October, my best friend and I toasted her departure to another metropolis by blowing out with:

Lady Sov @ 9:30 club
the DAM! Festival@dc9
Girl Talk@ the Cat
then back to
the DAM! festival for De Novo Dahl

Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood @ 9:30. First stop on the tour. Still the best of the year, even if I spent half the second set freeing my keys from my locked car.

Beirut at Warehouse Next Door

Oh yeah, and BECK, backstage at the Black Cat.

Low at the Black cat back in February.

The Hold Steady at the Black Cat

jenny lewis at the birchmere

Radiohead in NYC.

In the DC area, though, I'd have to say Sleater-Kinney at the 9:30 Club.

Neko Case - solo and with the New Pornographers - at SXSW, Austin.

no thanks, i've already seen spoon

this comments section reads like the worst pazz and jop poll ever.

The Hard Tomorrows, at several venues this year. I am such a fangirl.

RX Bandits at Ottobar in Baltimore. Went up after work, crashed on my sister's dorm room floor, got up the next day at 5:45 to get to work again.

wow. with a reader base like this it's no wonder dcist's music writing sucks so hard.

Twilight Singers at the 9:30 Club in June. Hell, any Twilight Singers gig.

so i'm guessing there was a winner, and that winner was not me?

Ratatat @ Black Cat

crazy / amazing show.
