Washington Post Hearts D.C. Blogs

2007_0102_postsummit.JPG
Thanks to reader Kyle for forwarding us an email invitation that's been making its way around the greater D.C. blogosphere for the last couple of weeks. Looks like the longtime blog-friendly Washington Post is taking their love for the medium to the next level: A Meetup! Well okay, they're calling it a "Summit", actually. Fancy.

We're definitely excited to attend, and of course applaud the Post for being one of the few major media outlets who seem to be genuinely unafraid of the power of teh Internets. The event will be held January 9, 2007, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the Post's auditorium (1150 15th Street NW). If you have a blog about D.C. and would like to attend, send the WaPo an email by the end of the day today.

That's no blogger summit. It's a space station.

IT'S A TRAP!

Gee, what a nice offer. Where is the horse’s head?

Now that's pretty cool - inviting us in for a chat. Will it be good, bad, or ugly? Who knows. It definitely will be packed wall to wall with your fav people and I think I'll start organizing the after-party now!

The last one the Washington Post Express hosted, it was more of a brainstorming meeting in which Post members (online and print) and local bloggers discussed ways in which each side could help the other. I expect that this will be much of the same. If nothing else, it will be an interesting "summit". See you there!

is rusty going????

All right, no matter what happens during the summit, we now have a rocking after party! http://dc.metblogs.com/archives/2007/01/dc_blogger_summ.phtml

The Post is trying to trap Jonathan Rees.

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't believe Express hosted a blogger brainstorming meeting (it was WPNI, I believe). Certainly, I know and have met many local bloggers, but there was nothing formal through Express.

The event sounds suspect given the WP's lack of interest in the mis use of Homeland Security resources to silence bloggers.

Indeed, the WP with MSNBC had a great opportunity to cover that with their 5 part special on the boondoogle of USHS, only to be stopped with the media puff story of the contrived John Mark Karr JB Ramsey murder "confession".

Other factos, such as the WP's mis-reporting about the history of the DC highways, such as the fake I-95 route through Takoma Park, and their refusla to print corrections, all suggest that one should be very wary of anything connected with the Washington Post.

dc blogger?

sounds like a cheese party with bad music, bright light and resumes. not for people who actually live in dc and blog. hmm.

conclusion: typical lame d.c. bollocks!

p.s. i'm posting this to my blog.

nutty

Wayan's a douche.

I had the pleasure of attending the later half of the DC BLOGGER SUMMIT

it was all that those feared
and more

in the end it looks like a decent mutualistic relationship

they want to get money for advertising
they need more places to put advertising

bloggers want people to read their shit
even bloggers would like to have more money

lets see how it develops...
lets see who if favors...

I am not sure my blog meets their needs
as my topic is not for mass consumption
or at least not a topic that meets the interests of the masses

Nice site and fine colors!
