>> Son of Nun is a high school teacher from Baltimore who’s using his music to change the world. His single “Fight Back” was chosen to be included on the second volume of the Peace Not War compilation and “Free Palestine” is featured in NPR’s Open Mic Favorites. Tonight he will be spreading his positive message at the Black Cat with Flex Mathews. $6, 9 p.m.
TUESDAY
>> Back at work, and looking to relax after the long weekend? New York based acoustic soul singer Jonah Smith will be at Jammin’ Java tonight with blues duo Scrapomatic. $10 advance/ $12 at the door, 8 p.m.

>> 90's reggae alt-rockers Sublime are no more, but the tribute band Badfish is bringing them back to the stage at the 9:30 Club tonight with Lionize, Everyone But Pete, and Politicks. $15, 6 p.m. doors.
FRIDAY
>> L magazine called them "an NYC band with power-pop sensibilities augmented by a love of post-punk" New York’s Bridges and Powerlines are preparing to record their debut full-length album with Chris Zane, who has worked with Les Savy Fav, Asobi Seksu, and The Cloud Room. This Friday they’ll be at The Red and the Black with The Alphabetical Order, Langley Holland and Nakatomi Plaza. $8.
>> We love them, horses love them, and you should too. D.C.’s finest purveyors of pop, Hello Tokyo, just released their new EP, Don’t Cry In Public, and will be at the Rock and Roll Hotel tonight with Asobi Sesku and The Dance Party (***). $10.
SATURDAY
>> The Annual’s experimental pop has got all the indie music blogs raving with the release of Be He Me last October. We couldn’t agree more with the positive buzz. They’ll be performing on the Conan O’Brien show this Thursday, but be sure to catch them live at the 9:30 Club on Saturday with The Dears and Pilot Speed. $15.
>> DCist Matt checked out Exit Clov’s latest album, Respond Respond, last fall and was very pleased but not surprised with the "entertaining mixture of art, politics and rock." Tonight they will be at the Black Cat with De Novo Dahl, and Middle Distance Runner (***). $10, 9 p.m.
SUNDAY
>> Punk from up and down the east coast checks into the Rock and Roll Hotel tonight with Atlanta's The Heart Attacks, The Queers from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Ottawa, Ontario's The Riptides.

ROCK!
Benjy Ferree, Meredith Bragg and the Terminals, Greenland at Black Cat on Friday. That's my must-see show this week.
i can't wait to see asobi seksu. i just wish they weren't playing at the rock and roll hotel - such a pain to get to...
I don't want to downplay Bridges & Powerlines at all, they are the hottness, but J. Robbins produced Nakatomi Plaza's last album, and Langley Holland sports the drumming talents of one Dan Baber, formerly of the Rachel Nevadas, so this is hardly a "show up late and catch the headliner" kind of show. Get there early, get your money's worth.
Also, the Washington Post concurs, the Alphabetical Order is power-pop. Apparently the dance-floor-filling variety. They could have conceivably meant a dance-floor in the other part of the club, but it's the newspaper of record in this town, so propers must be given.
I saw Asobi Seksu twice at Black Cat a while back. They're cute and all, but nothing to write home about live. I'd say skip it if you don't want to make the trek.

i love cute bands.
Not to downplay my own show, which is surely going to be as awesome as Mister Fry says, but my friend Dean Fields is going to be doing his singer-songwriter thing at Iota on Friday night as well, so if that's more your cup of tea, I highly recommend it. The scheduled bands bailed last minute, and he's doing a solo set. Should be delightfully intimate and enjoyable for those not interested in having their socks rocked off.
It would be nice to see Asobi but I really can't wait to see Hello Tokyo and the Dance Party is cool too!
