Idolizing D.C.
Though we can't all claim to be following this season of American Idol ourselves, the show's ratings tell us that at least a few of you probably are. So what do we care? Well, one of our own has made it to the top 24 this season, the show's fifth.
Antonella Barba isn't a D.C. native -- she's originally from Point Pleasant, NJ, but she's been calling this city home for the past few years. As a student at Catholic University and waitress at Lounge 201, she's put down local roots and given us something to cheer for. Lounge 201, a Capitol Hill martini bar, has even created an Idoltini in her honor, and hosts viewing parties with drink specials every week as Antonella progresses. In the age old tradition of "McPheever" and the "Soul Patrol," as you sip your Idoltini you can be part of "Fantonella." Hey, it's American Idol. Embrace the mash up.
Antonella seems perfectly suited for a rise to pop stardom, citing influences like Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. And according to her profile, she's actually got more musical talent than meets the eye -- she plays the violin and piano in addition to singing.
Realitytvmagazine.com seems to think she's got a leg up. Apparently she's one of the most-searched-for contestants this season! So, DCist readers, will you be throwing your vote behind the local girl? Is she actually any good?

I don't know if she can sing -- my interest in "American Idol" is only as to whether it's yet again preempting "House" -- but she's as a cute as a button.

Anyway, she's a fine singer. But not the best. Usually the public votes according to the judges, and I fear the judges won't be kind to her. Nevertheless, I'll still give her my vote.
Yeah, you heard me correctly. I vote for American Idol contestants. So what? Does that make me a loser? (sigh)
Unfortunate about the pictures floating around now of her that her "friends" posted on MySpace. It will be interesting to see if Idol producers do anything or ignore it all together.
She seemed like a complete bitch during the auditions. She and her friend who was already booted did not deserve to go through. The judges booted the wrong one in that trio back during the original Hollywood auditions. She won't be getting my vote after the way they acted.

Alexander, I agree with you to a point, but I think her friend behaved much worse than Antonella did.
As far as the pictures surfacing, I, too, am interested to see what happens. I graduated from Catholic Architecture -- that's what she's studying, by the way -- and some interesting photos have been circulating like crazy. She's definitely not shy, that's for sure...
By the way, DCist, this is the sixth season, not the fifth.
They were talking about her on Eliot in the Morning on DC101 this morning. About the pictures and everything.
I know her, but not well. She lived in my dorm freshman year. She was never particularly nice to me, but also cannot cite any instances where she was a "bitch"
I don't watch american idol so I won't be voting.
Wow, she really tanked tonight. Oh well. She'll be better off finishing up architecture school anyway.
I was the TA for an architecture class she was in at Catholic about a year ago. I don't remember anything spectacular about her work but I still think she'd be better off finishing what she started. Everyone knows that architecture is much more exciting than Hollywood ever will be.
i agree jim, she sure did suck tonight. i don't know if she hit a single note and her vibrato was waaaay too rapid.

Apparently "Vote for the Worst" has decided that Barba and Sundance Head are the worst and most worthy contestants to vote for. Their goal, to sabotage AI. It seems to be working. "DialIdol", a AI prediction site, that uses the frequency of busy signals and other magic, is predicting that Barba and Head will be in the top 2! So as long as she keeps sucking the better odds she has. By the way DialIdol predicted that Hicks would win in by the 2nd week last year.
Hands down she is the worst singer on American Idol this season. Sorry to ruin anyone's idoltinis...
