Weekly Music Agenda

MONDAY

>> The week kicks off with a smorgasbord of indie fare at Warehouse. New York singer-songwriter Peter Silberman, aka The Antlers, emotes Jeff Buckley-style, while Richmond garage rockers A Roman Holiday dabble in death metal, with a visit from their labelmates, Illinois screamo duo The Midwestern. $10, 9:30 p.m.

2007_0226_rosettastoned.jpg>> This is one of their last gigs before they join TV on the Radio for a nationwide tour, so come catch San Francisco hip hoppers Subtle while you can still see them for $10. With openers Rosetta Stoned (pictured). At the Rock and Roll Hotel. $10/12, 9 p.m.

TUESDAY

>> We're excited to check out Graveyards at the Velvet Lounge, if only to find out what Detroit metalhead John Olson (of Wolf Eyes) sounds like on the alto sax. $10, 9 p.m.

>> If you're looking for a band to fill the void of The Minutemen and The Jesus Lizard, look no further than Milwaukee's Call Me Lightning, who belt out songs of "love, alcohol, dragons, and glory" over thrashing guitars. At The Red and the Black. $8, 9 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

>> Back in June, The Roosevelt impressed us with their spiffy songwriting and twangy indie rock. Tonight, the quartet takes the stage at DC9 along with Chicago blues-rockers Pistols at Dawn. $8, 9:30 p.m.

THURSDAY

>> For naysayers who think that D.C. is no longer fertile ground for punk music, point them in the direction of rockabilly-punk foursome Pessimist Parade and hardcore band The Screws, making noise tonight at the Velvet Lounge. $8, 9 p.m.

>> Back in November, we were disappointed when Karmella's Game cancelled their D.C. gig. Tonight, the group migrates down from Charm City with their keyboards and synths for a concert at the Black Cat benefiting From the Back of the Room, a documentary about women in punk music. $8, 9 p.m.

>> Still mourning the death of Ian Curtis? The Red and the Black is showcasing the new New Wave tonight: Hershey, PA's The April Skies, Brooklyn's The Jaguar Club, and Baltimore's Faster Faster Harder Harder. $8, 9 p.m.

FRIDAY

>> The word "experimental" is pretty much the only common factor between underground hiphop duo Dälek, industrial-psychedelic band Destructo Swarmbots and innovative indie-rockers The Caution Curves. If you're looking for the avant-garde across genres, the Rock and Roll Hotel has it in spades tonight. $10/12, 9:30 p.m.

>> Portland punks The Thermals got a lot of press coverage for their 2006 concept album The Body, The Blood, The Machine, a send-up of the Christian Right. Come see what all the fuss is about at the Black Cat tonight. $12, 9 p.m.

>> Jazz vocalist Tamm E Hunt is at Twins Jazz tonight and tomorrow night. The husky-voiced songstress has said, "Jazz is a religion and I am a disciple." Amen to that. $15, 9 p.m.

>> Back in 2005, we were impressed by J. Forté and his band, Lejeune, so we have high hopes for his new project, J. Forté and the Secret Pop Band. The evening at the Velvet Lounge will also feature two local bands with britpop flavor, Red Racer and The Bolophonics. $8, 9:30 p.m.

SATURDAY

>>At the intersection of kid-friendly and awesome, the fine folks at Rock'N'Romp bring us the latest installment of their concert series for cool mommies and daddies. This month's show At McGinty's Public House in Silver Spring features Middle Distance Runner, Soft Complex, and Lemonface, plus refreshments and activities for kids. $5 for adults, free for kids. 3 p.m.

patrickw.jpg>> In the fine tradition of Arcade Fire and the Dears, Club Iota brings us another Montreal import: Patrick Watson. The indie-rock raconteur's latest album is a best-seller up north, and is likely to catch on down here as well. $12, 9:30 p.m.

>> Two instrumental aces team up at the Warner Theater tonight: legendary banjo player Bela Fleck and jazz pianist Chick Corea. The best seats are already sold-out, but you can still buy tickets for the orchestra and balcony sections. $47.50, 8 p.m.

>> With a glowing recommendation from our friends at Chicagoist, we feel compelled to check out The Safes. Brothers Frankie, Michael, and Patrick O'Malley make '60s-style garage rock, with a dash of blues. At Galaxy Hut. $5, 9 p.m.

SUNDAY

>> Brooklyn's much-buzzed-about Grizzly Bear create haunting, multi-layered soundscapes that are equal parts acoustic and electro. They'll be at the Black Cat tonight, along with Papercuts and Beach House. $10, 8 p.m.

>> Eventhough the show is sold out, this week's agenda would be incomplete without a mention of the Scissor Sisters' visit to the 9:30 Club tonight. For diehard fans, tickets are available on Craig's List for $100 a pop.
