Breaking: You Are Invited

flyer for the dismemberment plan's reunion showLet's get right to it: The Dismemberment Plan is reuniting for one night only, and tickets are going on sale tomorrow at 5 p.m. (via TicketMaster and the Black Cat). It's been announced on the band's website, and both Pitchfork and the City Paper are reporting the news (the CP is helping to organize the concert, in fact). In other words: don't take getting a ticket for granted. This show might give last Saturday's Arcade Fire feeding frenzy a run for its money.

A Dismemberment Plan reunion has been a hoped-for and talked-about possibility since their final — and, I can attest, unbelievably great — show in 2003. What's brought the band back together? A good cause, of course. As part of the DeSoto Records family it only makes sense that the Plan would pitch in to help raise money for Callum Robbins. All proceeds from the show will be going toward helping Cal's family cope with his medical condition.

A great cause and a legendary D.C. band — there's not much more to say. The show's at the Black Cat on Saturday, April 28, and will set you back $15.

Might give the Arcade Fire feeding frenzy a run for its money? Hell, what's the capacity of the Black Cat, 500-600 people? And the biggest (and most fanatically worshipped) DC band in recent memory is reuniting for a single show? If anything, I think this one will sell out even faster.

what happens when 500 people simultaneously try to order 6 tickets within the same 5 second window after 5 pm tomorrow? I'm not sure, but we'll be finding out in about 21 hours.

With Kennedy Center Sufjan Stevens tickets going for $300/apiece on craiglist/ebay -- when there were thousands of FREE tickets handed out -- I can't wait to see what these will fetch.

If the downright pitiful turnout at Trav's last solo show at the Black Cat is any indication, it won't be all that difficult to get tickets to this show.

Yeah... no one was at Travis's show at the backstage with Cataract Camp. I kept thinking "where is everybody!?!"

Have you listened to his solo stuff? Travis Morrison =/= The Dismemberment Plan.

I saw Travis Morrison with the Hellfighters last June at the Black Cat, and despite it being one hell of a good show, 200 people at most showed up. Either way, it's awesome to see them getting back together.

Beauty Pill is a good draw, this show will def sell out.

Yeah, I tried to get into Travis Morrison after Dismemberment Plan parted ways, but I'm just not that interested in hearing him sing about whales, you know? Definitely looking forward to this, however.

Nate's on the money.
This show will sell out by 5:00:10 pm.

The question is whether 300 people know about the show, or 100 scalpers. I wouldn't have known but for DCist.

unless i'm doing something wrong on ticketmaster.com, it's already sold out.

I got nada at 5:01. Curses!

I struck out, too. Well, the Black Cat box office opens at 7. I asked the guy working the door last night whether they'd have a separate allocation and he seemed to think they would (although he seemed slightly unclear on the situation in general).

yeah, I couldn't get any tickets. I was on at 5:00:08 PM

Either everyone and their mom tried to get tickets, or Ticket master just sucks....

oh wait.

nothing at 5:00pm!

yeah, looks like it sold out in exactly one minute. unbelievable

thankfully, i was lucky enough to snag a pair

I got my 2 tix, but only cause I was refreshing the page over and over again since 4:50. Luckiest day EVER.

Really, sold out at 5:01?! Geez.

For once in my life I am lucky and I got in by refreshing the page starting at 4:58.

I just bought 4.

STOOPID. i can't believe how fast they disappeared.

wow

at 5:11 PM the blackcat schedule already changed the D-plan show to sold out...

I just hope it was all fans and not scalpers who got the tickets.

I was able to get a pair at exactly 5:00 PM, but when I went back a couple minutes later, it was sold out.

Scratch that. DCist's Matt Yglesias just swung by the Black Cat and was told that there aren't any more tickets to be had -- there's no separate allocation.

Crap.

Why couldn't this be another 9:30 show?! I love the Black Cat, but it is a fundraiser, after all...

It's NOT sold out.
It kept giving me errors at 5:02 PM
I kept trying and I got in an order around 5:05.

why ticketmaster let you select up to 50 tickets for this, I don't know... I submitted mine about 5:00:10 and got nothing.

did anybody manage to get them off ticketmaster?

Damn show sold out at 5:00:01pm.

Black Cat lists it as SOLD OUT. 5:00 and I couldn't get through.

it's official: sold out in 5 minutes.

talked to ticketmaster by phone - it is most def. sold out.

Well, I got my two, failed when I went back for more for a friend. That was crazy

I got 6!

I got in and got tickets the very first time I refreshed after the clock ticked to 5. When I went back to test a single ticket request at 5:05, it said there were none available.

There was no "Have the tickets mailed to you" option for this concert, so anyone trying to scalp a large number of tickets is going to have to show up at the club, stand in line to pick up their huge stack of tickets, and then go back outside to distribute them to their purchasers. I anticipate potential ugly mob scenes as jilted fans gang up on the more obvious scalpers.

I got a couple extras that I'll be passing along to friends at face value. Anyone who makes a big profit off tickets to a benefit show has a gaping hole where their morals and conscience used to be . . .

Even though I'm bummed I could get a pair for me and the girlfriend, I'm glad to see that a lot seemed to have gone to the fans and not scalpers.

I blame my failure on those stupid captcha images, Ticketmaster's are sometimes impossible to read.

quality DCist coverage again, black cat wasn't open at 5pm for tickets, at least there were only 6 of us in line.

nice1, I'm sorry if you were confused, but I don't think you can lay this one on us. The Black Cat is never open for tickets at 5pm, as a quick glance at their website will indicate. It wasn't immediately clear to us that the Cat and Ticketmaster were working off the same pool of tickets (that now seems to be the case). But there shouldn't have ever been any question as to which outlet would open for business first: Ticketmaster. I apologize if this was unclear.

City Paper announced that tickets would be available (without service charge) from the Black Cat box office on their site, and since they're involved with organizing the show I think it was legit for DCist to assume it was true and put it into their post.

Hell, at least it was a nice day out!

I apparently mistyped the verification code twice, kicking myself out of the possible ticket group. Oh well. Maybe they'll get back together for good after this.

I hate this shit. Someone's trying to sell a pair on Craigslist for $500. Isn't this a charity show? Shouldn't the charity get the money instead of the scalpers? The Black Cat should've put the price up to $50/ticket, and limit to two per purchase.
