Considerably Less Than 8 1/2 Minutes

flyer for the dismemberment plan's reunion showWell, that was fast. Judging by the comments that are pouring into yesterday's post, the Dismemberment Plan reunion benefit sold out in less than a minute. All of us here at DCist offer our hearty congratulations to those of you who managed to snag tickets — many of us also offer our undying envy.

It's a little hard to say exactly when the show sold out. Some commenters are reporting success as late as 5:05, but most were out of luck by one minute past the hour. For my part, a sudden sinking realization at 5:03 didn't translate into tickets. We were hoping that the Black Cat might have its own allocation of tickets — the gentleman working the door last night seemed to think they would — but our own Matt Yglesias just stopped by the Cat and was told this wasn't the case. The tickets seem to be truly and utterly gone.

It's good to see such interest in the show — although seeing Ticketmaster offering aspiring scalpers the chance to buy up to 50 tickets per transaction is more than a little irritating. Demand for the band clearly remains high, the Black Cat isn't that big, and this is all for a good cause. So what about it, boys? How about a second show?

UPDATE: Arrgh! The pain of being scooped... Well, we suppose there's not much an organization can do compete with the Post for D-Plan news, considering that Travis Morrison actually works for them. At least the news is good: the GOGs report that there will indeed be a second show. Hurrah! There are no details yet; we'll let you know when we hear any.

friday night! friday night! your adoring public demands it, Dplan.

Moreover, if the objective was to raise money, couldn't they have upped the ticket price? Seriously, how many people would balk at 20-25 bucks for that ticket?

The Dismemberment Plan To Add Second Show

Bummed because you got shut out this afternoon while trying to score tickets to the much-anticipated Dismemberment Plan reunion show next month? Don't go paying exorbitant prices to heartless scalpers on Craigslist just yet. (It's a benefit show for a very sick child, people.) The band will add a second show at the Black Cat on April 27, one night before the show that just sold out in a matter of seconds. The news was confirmed by Plan frontman Travis Morrison, our co-worker who sits just a floor below Guru headquarters. On-sale date and time are still up in the air, but expect the information to be released soon. We'll let you know what we hear as soon as we know it.

It truly was seconds. I reloaded once every 5 seconds or so and the link went live at about 5:00:10, according to time.gov. I got the captcha code entered by 5:00:35 and they were gone already. 30 seconds to sell out...

wow, please let me get a ticket this second time around!!! I must see them!

Dudes, it was the Dismemberment Plan. How desperate was the music scene in the 1990s when THEY became a hot ticket? They were so freaking derivative of Dischord bands that were still playing. Those gusy came over to my house once and they were all like "where'd you get all these great records?," but guys, you heard Fugazi records and made a career out of it! Someone told me once that the band that was popular when people turned 21 ALWAYS seems cooler than they were.

My friends and I have been saying it for years: Fugazi has been holding the DC music scene hostage.

i hear you, huh. BUT WHAT THE FUCK ELSE IS GOING ON IN DC MUSIC NOW????!!!!!!

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I disagree. I went to the Middle Distance Runner and The Dance Party show at 9:30 last week, and there were about 800 screaming kids there rocking out to two local bands in a PACKED club.

Washington Social Club is playing a benefit tonight with TUS, and both local bands sold the Cat out a few weeks back.

Now the Dismemberment Plan re-uniting?

DC is doing okay.

I'm with Roger. There may not be a "DC sound" any more, but that also means that our city's bands aren't hostage to any particular scene or type of music. There's a lot of great stuff going on right now.

yeah dude see holding up MDR, TDP, WSC and TUS as examples of the "great stuff" currently kicking in DC isn't doing your argument any favors

Where did I cite any bands specifically? Look, pop may not be your thing, and that's fine. But let's not pretend there's any more mileage left in humorless post-punk longing for days gone by. This city needs to move on, and is.

oh it absolutely needs to move on, couldn't agree more! also, sorry for conflating your post with the one above it - figgered "i'm with roger" referred to the bands he was naming as well as his general sentiment.

dischord worship hasn't paid appreciable dividends for a LONG time, and i'm hardly longing for days gone by (i wasn't even around to appreciate them fwiw). it's not an anti-pop thing, either; i like plenty of pop. WSC, TDP, TUS and MDR just don't make good pop, that's all. moving on is great, but it'd be nice to see the city replace a bunch of third-rate dischord wannabes with something better than a load of fourth-rate dullsville schlock.

Care to elaborate, or is your argument the ever-persuasive "I don't like them so they're no good" routine that we've come to expect from anonymous commenters? MDR is top-notch pop. 4th-rate dullsville schlock is what's on the DC radio, not what's on the DC stages. This scene is vibrant enough to breed all kinds, from deliberately inaccessible experimentation to pandering Creed-esque demagoguery and all stripes in between. Those who disparage such a broad spectrum should perhaps consider spending more time at shows and less time trolling lifestyle blogs.

tickets are on sale now for the additional friday night show
