Voting Rights Happy Hour: Now, More Than Ever
Isn't it nice that you don't have to wonder what you'll be doing tonight? There's just no question -- you'll be at tonight's DCist Voting Rights Happy Hour, co-hosted by our friends at DC Vote. It's true, a vote on the bill before the House has been delayed, but that's all the more reason for us to gather tonight in solidarity for full voting rights for a congressional representative for the District. We need to stick together, we probably need to vent a little, and we certainly need a stiff drink. So stop by the Eighteenth Street Lounge's Gold Room tonight and get all the details on the upcoming Voting Rights March on April 16.
What else can we promise you tonight? A special District-themed cocktail created especially for this event by the fabulous bartenders at Eighteenth Street Lounge! Local political luminaries! Slightly tipsy bloggers! DCist temporary tattoos for everyone! Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) and his staff! (We hope.) And of course, plenty of great information on the struggle for voting rights. We're looking forward to seeing you there.

Will this meeting also address second amendment rights, or just Liberal rights issues?
I guess "voting rights" isn't clear enough for some people...
Ooh snap!
Since when was the right to vote just a liberal issue?
anyway guns and voting all in the same bill sounds like a good deal for me. i'm glad the government can finally trust me with such heavy responsibilities.
I think this has to be said -- in D.C., the prohibition on guns is not absolute. On voting representation in Congress, though, it is. Should D.C. gun laws be changed? I think a case can be made for it. But does it have to be via congressional mandate? No. But when it comes to voting, that's the only option we have. And that should take obvious precedence. Because while a D.C. resident can still have a rifle in their house, they can't vote.
is rusty going?
Umm - if you want to vote, live elsewhere. And grab a copy of the Constitution on your way out.
"Umm - if you want to vote, live elsewhere."
Would "R" be a nom de DCist for King George?
