Weekly Music Agenda
>> If you were planning on taking in The Young Knives and Foreign Islands tonight at the Black Cat, you'll have to make other plans, as the show has been cancelled.
TUESDAY
>> Did you watch About A Boy and think, "gee, I sure am enjoying the music, as well as Hugh Grant's foppish charm"? If so, you're in luck, because the man behind that soundtrack and a lot of other grade-A shoegaze, Badly Drawn Boy, is coming to the 9:30. $25.
>> If you're into music that's infectious and slightly unsettling, with a dose of psychadelia on the side, then look no further than Clinic, who are at the Black Cat with Holy Fuck. Clinic hasn't graced the District with their surgical-mask-clad presence since 2004, so it's not to be missed. $13, 8 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
>> Whether isicathamiya is your wheelhouse or you just really dug those lifesavers commercials growing up, head to GW's Lisner Auditorium and catch Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Tickets range from $35 to $55, but if you're a GW student you'll snag a discount. Hey, we hear you guys could stand to save a few bucks anyway. 7:30 p.m.
THURSDAY
>> What's there to say about The Who? They're the freaking Who! Because of that, tickets to see them with Rosehill Drive at the Verizon Center will set you back a pretty penny -- they're ranging from $55 to $205. Probably worth it though. 7:30 p.m.
>> District ex-pat Carol Bui and Miguel of Stamen and Pistils, Person, and Metropolitan are joining forces to bring an all-ages concert series to Arlington's Murky Coffee called "Murky Upstairs." Bui, Stamen and Pistils and Panda and Angel will play the inaugural event this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. $5.
>> Wolftrap's second stage, the Barns of Wolftrap, is doing something pretty awesome. For four general admission dance shows, they're removing all 382 floor seats to make room for dancing! This week's show comes courtesy of Room Full of Blues. 8 p.m., $22.
FRIDAY
>> Two of DCist's very favorite bands headline the Black Cat this Friday. After you've soaked in the dazzling photography at DCist Exposed, round out your evening with the haunting sounds of Nethers and the alt country stylings of These United States, fresh off of blowing our minds at Unbuckled.
>> If your mood's more intellectual hip hop than crooners and pedal steels, head to DAR Constitution Hall for an evening with The Roots, Lupe Fiasco and special guest, our very own Chuck Brown. $45 to $50, 8 p.m.
SATURDAY
>> The annual Shamrockfest has always been a way to bring the Irish and the college student out in all of us. It's moved from being a block party in Ballston to a bonafide festival at RFK. Flogging Molly and a host of other bands -- of varrying degrees of Irish -- will provide the soundtrack. Wear green and don't forget your sunscreen.
>> Lexington, KY's The Scourge of the Sea is coming back to D.C. this week to the Velvet Lounge. The band's album, Make Me Armored, has been getting buzzier and buzzier since it released last summer. Come see what they've got in store.
SUNDAY
>> The first of the Callum Roberts fundraiser shows to lather up the D.C. concertariat is upon us, as the beloved Thievery Corporation take the stage at the Black Cat. It sold out in a very DPlan fashion, so unless you already have tickets, you're probably not getting any.
