Down Goes Arenas!

IMG_2001.JPG

I picked a hell of a night to stay home and do laundry. There I was, checking my RSS feed during a Friday Night Lights commercial break when Ivan Carter and the always informative Wizards Insider informed me that Gilbert Arenas arrived late for the afternoon shoot around and would not start against the suddenly hot Charlotte Bobkittens. "Not that big of a deal" I thought, but then I went on to Ivan's next blog entry, adorned with the disheartening title Arenas leaves with possible leg injury. Ruh-roh. Agent Zero was later diagnosed with a sprained knee, an injury that seems to be infectious in the Wizards locker room.

Gil will have an MRI today that will determine the extent of the injury. As Carter notes, Antawn Jamison missed 12 games with the same injury and Andray Blatche is scheduled to miss eleven with his.

The Wizards need just one win to clinch a playoff spot, something that may be a long time coming with Caron Butler injured, two straight losses to Charlotte and games against Cleveland and New Jersey this weekend. Stay tuned.

*UPDATE* - As commenter JAR notes, Wizards Insider is reporting Arenas is out 2-3 months with a "lateral left meniscus tear in his knee." There's bad luck and then there's losing your two All-Stars in the span of four days just before the playoffs start. Wow.

Out 2-3 Months according to Wizards Insider.

Also, Haywood was benched for the entire game for what I'm assuming was his (continuing) bad attitude.

Where have all the good times gone?

Can I PLEASE say something positive about the Wizards?

AD played his ass off last night. If the Wiz manage to make it to the playoffs, it'll be because AD puts up double digit assists (like last night) and because Stevenson can't feel his face (like last night).

Oh yeah, we need to get Steve Buckhantz's new nickname for AD to stick: "The Termite" - because he's always on the wood.

What a bummer. Man. Not cool.

I agree with Bob. AD needs way more playing time. He's a great player, I don't understand it.

curse of the boulez?

curse of the boulez?

Bob and Sean are right, Daniels played a great game. But with a thin bench, he (and the rest of the Wiz who were getting extended minutes) wore down towards the end of the game, and the Bobcats pulled ahead for the win.

With Arenas out for the duration, Daniels is sure to see a lot of time.

I don't mean to get down on the team, my point is that they need BTH to get his head out of his, uh, rear, and contribute.

FU--

--UCK.

They need a legit bigman at center. Until then, all the 40 and 50 point games won't help them (esp when he's off and only goes for 20, and misses 65% of his shots). You can still see Lebron basically walking the baseline untouched to a layup to win that one game...was it game 5 or 6 or something? You need thick defense to win games in the playoffs, not ball hogs.
