Shooting at Virginia Tech - Updated
One person is dead and several others are wounded after two shootings at Virginia Tech University. Police have one person in custody, but fear that there might be another shooter still on the campus. The two shootings took place two hours apart.
The first shooting took place on the fourth floor at West Ambler Johnston Hall, a dorm that houses almost 900 students, mostly freshmen. It's being reported that the second incident took place near Norris Hall. The school's over 28,000 students are now being told to stay in classrooms and dorms, away from windows, until police are certain they've apprehended all suspects. All entrances to the campus are also closed.
At the beginning of the school year, Virginia Tech was completely evacuated after a police officer and security guard were shot on campus.
UPDATE:
Local authorities say that at least 22 people were killed and 28 others wounded in the shootings. Police also say the suspect, described as a college-aged Asian man, is dead. The first shooting took place at 7:15 a.m., followed by another attack at around 9:15 a.m.
The campus is now secured and many students are evacuating the area.

at least they have guns to protect themselves, right?
Reports from the noon press conference:

CNN now reporting that 20 people have been fatally shot. Wow.
Apparently there are 20+ dead. Absolutely terrible.
FoxNews is saying 21 people killed. Oh my God.
Keep the Hokies in your prayers.
CNN now has the death toll at twenty. That up from one just a minute ago. Good grief.
At least they have guns to protect themselves? Geez.
Now they're saying that 22 people are dead. They'll be talking about this for a long time.

save the snark.
How horrifying. As many as twenty dead and twenty more injured. The WaPo reports that the slayer, singular, is among the dead.

Way to score a few points, you degenerate bastard.
Word from the scene (EMS) is that 30 are reportedly dead and the local area is hurting for the morgue space. Only nearby Pulaski County has morgue space available. Bodies in Montgomery County are all sent to the examiner's office from the hospital.
Up to 32. I can't comprehend this.

where did you find this information?
It seems like there must have been more than one shooter because if it was just one ... Did he just go around shooting for hours without anyone trying to stop him? To have that many people dead and injured he must have gone trough an incredible number of rounds. What was the guy packing? How on earth was he walking around with weapons and all that amo and not have been noticed?
Q : actually VA TECH said to students that even if they have a carry and conceal permit they will be kicked out of school if they bring their legal guns on campus , so no they didn't have firearms. Also i would like to say that you are a typical pathetic moron you make me want to vomit. I can't believe you have the audacity to say that as the first comment. You are in my opinion the most typical of leftists. My sincerest condolences to the friends and families of this tragedy.
And your opinion is worth---what?
The OP may or may not be a leftist, but I doubt s/he is typical of any one political group.
Horrible.
Just horrible.
Almost as bad as a typical slow day in Bahgdad.
"Almost as bad as a typical slow day in Bahgdad."
WOW. Using this forum about the VA TECH massacre to spew your opinion of the Iraq war. That says a whole lot about you. Also i have never elevated my opinion above others. RDB seriously , you have some issues.
Please guys, lets not make this worse by spitting vitriol in the comments. This is your forum to discuss whatever you want, but we'll start removing comments if you can't keep it civil.
everyone here who can't see the forest for the trees and must put on blinders to society and the strangeness that can happen can plug their ears and say "la la la this is an isolated incident divorced from our political life" can crawl under their blankets tonight and shiver. The reality of life is that the insane absolutely take cues from the same society we do and therefore it's right, proper, and our civic duty to discuss political topics when faced with these extreme examples. To not talk about gun ownership, violent FPS videogames, or campus policies in reaction to this event would be child-like and ignorant. I am neither.
