Shaw Hearts Blogging

Welcome to ShawShaw is officially the nation's second bloggiest neighborhood. That's the pronouncement from outside.in, a Web site which tracks local blogs, news and events in almost every American city. They combined a host of statistics including "total number of posts, total number of local bloggers, number of comments and Technorati ranking for the bloggers" and found the central D.C. 'hood flush with blogs.

The area's diverse population, encroaching gentrification and long history provide lots of fodder for online discussion. Shaw was edged out only by Clinton Hill in Brooklyn, where people seem to like talking about similar issues in their rapidly-changing neighborhood.

So how can we claw our way to the number one spot? Maybe more liquor license disputes, wacky ANC meetings, or vacant buildings. What's your favorite Shaw-based blog?

DCist keeps showing OffSeventh love...thanks guys! My vote for favorite Shaw blog is the "Queen of Shaw"...Mari from inShaw...she has been doing it longer than all of the others combined.

Of course people in Shaw blog. They don't feel safe outside at night and they don't like TV.

Dammit, I need to start up districtdirt.com and be part of it. I got lazy about posting, but I probably spend more time now leaving comments on every Shaw blog than it would take to reincarnate my blog and start writing again.

Well I was watching Heroes, so I do watch TV. And I do feel safe, in my front yard, on my block, on the street where I live, yeah life is good in the hood.

Coming from Century City, CA, I have never felt more informed and connected to my community than I do now living in Shaw - thanks in large part to the growth of the blogging community. Thanks inShaw, OffSeventh, FifthandOh, and Slum. And Mike, you should see how many of us are actually walking our dogs and hanging out with our neighbors on the streets of Shaw... let me assure you, I live in Shaw and I see many. I personally love my neighbors, and am daily amazed at the intelligent and constructive discussions that take place by these wonderful people in these blogs. Shaw has truly become a vibrant place to live, not merely for the prospect of "gentrification", but because there are many residents (and many people arriving still) who love and hope to make our piece of land in the District an increasingly better place to live. Go Shaw!!

Loosely related to Shaw...my trash blog. Treebox Vodka. treeboxvodka.com. enjoy.

The great thing about this online phenomenon in shaw is that we actually all know eachother. We go to meetings, events, & are all really involved on and offline. Mari - Mistress of InShaw my fave...
