The Weekly Feed: Slightly Tipsy Edition
The Weekly Feed was pushed back this week because its regular author was tied up with another task. Thanks to DCist Food staffer Jamie Liu for picking up the column last minute.
The Proof is in the Pinot
Coming up in May, wine enthusiast Mark Kuller is bringing out some fun little tricks with his wine-centric restaurant, Proof, in Gallery Place. The sexy little enomatic from Italy will be dispensing tasting and full pours of 16 red and 16 white wines at the push of a button. Just pop in a little pre-paid card and select your wine. (Note: This feature is not used at Proof.) Sommelier Sebastian Zutant, from Rasika and Komi, will be serving as wine director in charge of the over 500 bottle selections on their wine list. Not to mention there will be a champagne trolley. Let me say that again. Champagne. Trolley.
Wine will include vertical vintages of California wines Screaming Eagle, Bryant Family and Harlan Estates, Bordeaux stalwarts Château Latour, Château Pétrus and Château Haut-Brion as well as Rhone varietals, particularly Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Haidar Karoum, from Asia Nora will be handling the nosh aspect. Plans are for a dinner menu of 12-15 small plates (tapas alert!), ranging in price from $6 to $15, and six to eight large plates that will range from $15 to $25. Small plates will include items charcuterie, cheese and an array of raw options like carpaccio, tartare and crudo. Maybe they’ll have a little characuterie room like Central so we can all stare and drool.
Small Bites
Next Up: 9th and 1/2 and Chartreuse
Anzu is gone-zo, and in is 18th and Red, a new restaurant and bar that opened last week to confuse the people going to either 18th Street Lounge or the defunct Red. Is there anyone out there who is brave enough to venture into Adams Morgan for nightlife? Want to give us an update?
Izayaka Open at P St. Whole Foods
Izakaya, an Asian diner, is serving up sushi, dumplings, rice bowls, and other quick Japanese fare. Also check out the flowering teas; they sound like a nice way to show a girl your sensitive side. Check out Food & Wine for more on the izakaya trend.
On another note
We’re sorry to hear via Metrocurean that Executive Chef Arnel Esposo from Palette has been called up for active duty in Iraq starting in mid-May. Our wishes are with him for a safe trip there and back home.

Your link to Proof's homepage is wrong, and the real homepage for Proof has no substantive info.
The link to Enomatic is wrong too.
french restaurants/chains like Mon Ami Gabi have had a champagne trolley for years.
if its a winebar, why is it called Proof.
Either way, we heart sebastian and will totally go.
You had me at champagne. The trolley is certainly a bonus.
I am the owner of Proof. There is no farecard access to the enomatic wine system. All wine will be dispensed by the bartender. The website is under construction and will have more substantive info shortly. Proof has many meanings - alcoholic certainly, and we will serve spirits in addition to wine (fyi, the alcoholic content of wine is expressed in terms of proof, as opposed to a %, throughout Europe and other parts of the world), but also in relation to art proofs (we are across from the National Portrait gallery), baking, and, of course, the law. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
Duly noted. Sorry about that.
