'Screen on the Green' Line-up Announced
It must really almost be summer, because Screen on the Green, the annual film series held on the National Mall, has announced their line-up. Once again, the AOL City Guide gets the scoop, thanks to the unholy march of media conglomeration. The good news is that unlike last year, which served up a lot of camp and guilty pleasure fare such as The Day the Earth Stood Still, this year's selections include two of the best films ever made, two grossly underappreciated gems, and one that's total camp (of course). As always, we'll preview each of the films as the dates draw closer. For now, whet your appetite on the schedule:
Monday, July 16: Annie Hall
Monday, July 23: The Thing From Another World
Monday, July 30: Wait Until Dark
Monday, August 6:: All the King's Men
Monday, August 13: Casablanca
With this much advance notice, you have no excuse not to plan to be there early enough to score some sweet lawn real estate and beat the crowds. Movies begin at sunset (usually around 8 p.m.), but those in the know show up by 5 p.m. with a picnic, prepared to defend their ground and secretly drink wine out of styrofoam cups (alcohol is technically not allowed. We're not saying you should do it. Just that many people have, in the past). We can hardly wait.

What are you talking about? Usually those movies don't start until 9:00, and there's still plenty of room to sit if you get there by 7:30...with the exception of last year's showing of "Rocky." Then it was pretty much packed.
Why no Star Wars. They did Rocky for its 30th why not SW?
I would guess it has to do who owns the movie (doesn't Turner own all the rights to the screen on the green movies?).

RJ, It's Saturday Night Fever's 30th too, and that could have potentially been a lot of fun.

Is the screen really set up at 15th Street? The photo on AOL makes it look closer to the capitol, but the text says 15th.
as the poster in the first link says, it's on the mall between fourth and seventh streets.
