Go Home Already: Dog Days

>> The actor who plays Jim Halpert on NBC's The Office, John Krasinski, otherwise known as the boyfriend of every female staff writer at DCist, was apparently onstage with Ben Gibbard at the 9:30 Club last night. Krasinski, who met Gibbard on the set of the upcoming film adaptation of David Foster Wallace's Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, reportedly got a bit drunk, came on the stage and provided a little witty musical banter with his friend that included singing a Wilco song. Jim, if you're still in D.C., DCist Amanda can be reached at amanda (@) dcist.com. [Pop Candy]
>> A private investigator boarded a school bus and removed a child from it earlier this week in Bethesda by flashing a badge and telling the driver he was a police officer. The P.I. has been driving near the bus when a student threw a plastic bottle at his car out the window of the bus. Luckily, the man drove the student home to his parents' home where they called the police, but some are now questioning whether the bus driver ought to have let the man, who was not a real cop but claimed to be, take the child. >> Gilbert Arenas was named to the NBA All-Star 2nd team. He's now the first Wizard to be named to the second team since Rod Strickland after the 1997-98 season. [Examiner]
>> DDOT is considering a new rule where D.C. residents with an appropriate permit would be able to park legally in front of their own driveways. Brilliant plan to increase the number of parking spaces available to residents, or potential clusterfuck of confusion when non-residents try to pull in to these "private" spots? "Brilliant plan to increase the number of parking spaces available to residents, or potential clusterfuck of confusion when non-residents try to pull in to these "private" spots?"
How about a wet sloppy kiss to those fortunate few who already have a grandfathered curb cut that precious few would be able to get today, and similarly rarefied parking rights on public space? Why? 'Cause now they'll be able to simply rent one of the two spots (both of which are on public property) and so profit off property that belongs to everyone.
oh damn you, ben gibbard. damn you for knowing john krasinski.
Ben Gibbard and John Krasinksi singing Wilco is like a melding of three of my favorite things in the universe. Unbelievably jealous of everyone who was there...
An older resident on my block has long "saved" the parking space in front of her house with a barrier of plastic cones, string, and paper signs. Her burly grandsons live nearby, so don't even try to comment on the situation. The police won't -- they understand the principle of seniority.
Is that a photo of Dana Perino's dog, Henry? All those Vizslas look alike to me.
Probably not - it's on a leash.
Isn't that leash too short? It looks like the dog can not lay down.
The leash might have been shortened for the photo so the dog would sit up and look noble. Vizslas look kind of ordinary when they lie down, and look positively goofy walking around - they are scent hounds, and snurfle about with heads down and legs splayed out. Graceful runners, though.
I don't think you should be using pictures that popularize peoples tags. This guy or girl is costing DC residents $1,000's to clean up his uninspiring graffiti. At least with others they pick interesting locations (inside subway tunnels, underside of overpasses, etc). This amateur won't hit anything that requires any effort or imagination.
Sommer: Please correct the photo credit. I took the photo, not my friend epmd.
Sorry about that furcafe, fixing it now!
