Emilio's Star Turn Thrills United
Last week, D.C. United striker Luciano Emilio's starring role lifted his team to new heights. His electrifying performance was the difference, winning over his team and their fans -- through song!
Thanks to BobbyBoswell.com, we are able to witness the majesty of Luciano's virtuoso performance of James Blunt's "Beautiful." Okay, so he's still learning some of the words and his grasp of the English language is still developing. Doesn't make it any less captivating when he belts out one of the most powerful ballads of our times.
Emilio reportedly became enamored with the song upon his arrival in the States this January. But why? We can only conjecture that Emilio's adoration is derived from his love of soccer, often dubbed "the beautiful game," particularly in his native country of Brazil.
Emilio's unseen teammates chime in to help him out throughout the clip to near disastrous results. This got us thinking: what would be the set list for a hypothetical D.C. United karaoke session?
F: Emilio -- James Blunt / "Beautiful"
Emilio's demonstrated that he and he alone has the pipes to knock down this one.
F: Jaime Moreno -- Joe Esposito / "You're the Best"
Notching goal number 108 this Saturday, Moreno tied Jason Kreis for the most in MLS history.
M: Christian Gomez -- The Prodigy / "Firestarter"
Suitable for the man that sparks United's attack.
M: Fred -- Right Said Fred / "I'm Too Sexy"
Obvs!
M: Ben Olsen -- The Rolling Stones / "Street Fighting Man"
Olsen's never one to shy away from confrontation.
M: Brian Carroll -- Various
Carroll would be the member of the group that sings backup for all of his buddies. Though the spotlight never glimmers on him quite as intensely, his presence in invaluable: his steady tenor lays the foundation that allows his teammates to let loose.
M/D: Joshua Gros -- Bruce Springsteen / "Born to Run"
On any given karaoke night, it's inevitable that you'll hear some of the Boss. Gros' trademark fitness makes this tune only more appropriate.
D: Facundo Erpen -- Kenny Loggins / "Danger Zone"
Ill advised forays into the attacking third. Errant passes. At least one gratuitous bicycle kick per game. Sometimes Erpen's play makes us want to plead negative, ghost rider, the pattern is full!
D: Bobby Boswell -- Bonnie Tyler / "Total Eclipse of the Heart"
Every karaoke session needs a preposterous rendition of a serious song, and given Bobby's inclination to pranking, we think he's just the man for the job.
D: Bryan Namoff -- Oasis / "Wonderwall"
Namoff has been United's most consistent defender this year. Oasis has been one of Britain's most consistent chart-toppers.
GK: Troy Perkins -- Pink Floyd / "Money"
A topic Perkins understands well, given his experience working as a mortgage loan officer.
Any better suggestions, readers? How about for the bench? Former players?

Did you see the fallout from Liverpool's karaoke session on the Algarve before their Champions League tie against Barca?
Craig Bellamy went after John Arne Risse with a golf club, then both players scored at the Nou Camp in a famous victory for the 'Pool.
In Rafa We Trust!
Former players:
Alecko Eskandarian - Tommy Roe / "Dizzy"
Freddy Adu - Public Enemy / "Don't Believe the Hype"
Hristo Stoichkov - Patsy Cline / "Crazy"
