Mindgutter brings us a stunning night-time HDR shot of a building on the UMD campus. Like DCist Heather, I'm a complete astrogeek, so the inclusion of the conjuction of the Moon and Venus is a total bonus. I also like that, if you look closely, you can see a security camera in the cupola. Big Brother -- and the Moon -- is always watching.

In the comments on the photo's Flickr page, Mindgutter asks what building this is on the UMD campus. He has marked Anne Arundel Hall on his flickr map, but it looks more like the Microbiology building to me. Are there any Terrapins out there -- past or present -- who would like to settle this? Hit the comments if you do.

I believe that's Ann Arundel Hall on South Campus, if anyone's interested.

Its 100% Microbiology building. Was my initial reflex looking at the shot, and follow up confirmed it.

It's HJ Patterson. Trust me--I spent way too much time on that campus.

That's definitely Microbiology. Nice shot.

Writing this from the UMD campus... it's definitely Microbiology. Its very similar to HJ Patterson and Anne Arundel (we have a real thing for copulas around here) but the little vent things (don't know what they're called) on the edge of the roof give it away... Anne Arundel doesn't have them in the same place and HJ Patterson doesn't have as many of them as Microbiology does.

Awesome picture. I have often admired the way the copula makes that great shadow on Microbiology's roof.

I like it becuase the colors remind me of "the simpsons".

Definitely Microbiology. I've noticed the lighting a few times after coming out of night classes in Hornbake.

it's microbiology for sure. i used to work in a lab in hj patterson. microbio's much prettier.
