We really enjoy giving away free stuff, and so apparently do your favorite local bands. That's why we got together with Cedars to arrange for an EP and ticket giveaway to their show tonight with Scotland's the Cinematics and Chicago's the Changes at the Rock and Roll Hotel! Who loves ya? DCist loves ya.
We've been big fans of the band since way back in the days when they had a different name and played our very first Unbuckled concert. We've watched them grow to take the stage at the 9:30 Club, and begged their wisdom in picking the best bands of 2006. Cedars' first EP gained much success across the pond, and their second one, released this past year, is continuing to build their momentum as a promising local band to watch. Another Season has garnered positive press from across the country, with PopMatters bestowing on them the honor of being "the best unsigned band in the US," and OnTap describing their music as "U2-meets-Interpol."
Cedars opens with The Changes for the The Cinematics. A four-some whose influences range from The Clash to Talking Heads, The Cinematics and have toured with such groups as Mute Math and We Are Scientists.
The rules are easy — ten lucky winners will receive a free copy of their latest EP Another Season, and one person will win two tickets to the show tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Good luck, it should be a great show! We'll choose a winner by 4 p.m. today.
UPDATE
We chose our winners yesterday and ten lucky DCist readers will receive their Cedars EP. One lucky winner got to enjoy the show last night for free! Thanks to all who participated.

GO TO THE SHOW, even if you don't win! It's going to be fantastic!
zzzzzz
This is a Doves ripoff band of the highest order. Just plain junk crap derivitave music that bloggers keep hyping for some damn reason.
I'm a big fan after hearing them live last year and think they bring a uniqueness to their music. If you don't like them- don't listen, right?? As for being a rip-off- one could probably say that about most bands. Someone has always done it to some extent before, its just the how, the who and the when that differs. C'est la vie.
aw, thanks for your expert opinion, 'thisbandsucks.' it's so kind of you to impart this undisputed wisdom of yours on potential local music fans!
this band does suck, though
