Sweatin' It on the Red Line
With notorious heat and humidity, Washington D.C. has never been the most pleasant place in the summer. Worst of all is getting stuck in some god-forsaken space that is crowded, poorly ventilated, and lacking in air conditioning.
Bad news for all you Red Liners out there. These are just the conditions you should expect for the next few days in the Dupont and Farragut North stations. According to the Post, a broken pipe under Connecticut Avenue has knocked out the air conditioning to both stations for at least the next few days. Worse, repairs will involve digging up sections of roadway to find the problem, which could mean lane closures along some busy streets. The forecast for tomorrow is relatively mild, but by Friday, those tunnels could be hotter than a sauna by lunchtime.

The AC at Farragut North always seems to be deficient. Moreso than other stations, anyway.
Well @ least the subway stations are getting to be more like NYC . . .
The AC @ all of the old stations like Farragut N. & Dupont have been deficient for as long as I can remember (late '70s). Not sure if it was the result of obsolete climate control technology that's too expensive to replace, aesthetic concerns (I recall being told that the compressors or whatever for Dupont can only be so big because they're located inside the Circle), a deliberate decision to save money on utility costs, or some other factor.
I think a more appropriate visual image would be a steamroom, not a sauna. In DC, it's not the heat, it's the humidity....
Good think you whiners never travel south. DC is famous for humdity if you are in DC. Then in winter we are famous for our onslaught of snow that stay on the ground two days. Oh, how do we all make it through the year?
You mean there's AC in those stations? Huh.
@blahblahblah Like people don't whine about the humidity and cold weather down south...
