Photo of the Day: June 6, 2007

Are these your weekend plans? Flickr user zenfrisbee caught some softball action down on the Mall with this image unique to our Capital city. Do you think this guy got a hit? EXIF.

Have the Nats finally gotten around to having an open competition for roster spots?
What is with that stance? How does he expect to hit the ball more than 2 feet? He can't possibly step into the swing starting like that.
Silver Springer:
And you expect office professional-by-day, hipster-by-night trendy softball players to know that?
I think that he has just taken his step and is starting to swing in this picture. That said, he's stepped much too far and should have started his swing earlier in the motion. I shouldn't judge, though--he's out on the mall playing ball; all I did yesterday was watch "F for Fake" on TCM.

Which hipster-by-night pooped in your Wheaties this morning for you to make this abstraction?
He took the pitch for a ball...
Slightly disappointed in today's selection -- there's nothing remarkable about this photo. Not only are we looking at the guy's back, the fence and lamp posts distract from the two key elements (monument and hitter). Finally, the timing of the shot ensures that the ball awkwardly disrupts the composition of the shot.
Sorry Heather and zenfrisbee ... just not convinced.
Hi... that's me up there.
Silver Springer - sorry coach.
Ex Hy-Hy - some would argue i'm 'professional' by day. and the only thing i am 'by-night' is sleeping.
PG - you are right. my front is much better to look at.
Looks like he's going to get rung up with some off-speed stuff.
I think the picture is great. An action shot is a nice change of pace for POTD.
It's all right wutings, just remember to keep your feet about shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent, and step into the swing. You'll get it next time. *pats on shoulder* (I tend to get worked up over batting stances - years of being an assistant coach for my brother's baseball teams as well as playing softball myself has made me a little OCD about it. Sorry for the slight over-reaction.)
You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?
Yes, because a picture of someone's back can NEVER be interesting:

can we call a moratorium on any and all use of the word "hipster"? because at this point, it's pretty much lost all meaning.
i run along the mall a few times a week and watch all the softball games as i go, and i see softballers in bars in my neighborhood, and never ever once have i ever seen one who i would even remotely describe as a hipster. and pretty much every person i've ever known who might earn that (long since meaningless) descriptor would laugh at the suggestion that they might play in an office softball league.
lol... thx, asst. coach springer! i *think* the photographer took this as i was stepping into the hit, but based on the position of the ball i probably committed too early.
Hipster WD.
i agree with PG. this photograph and the photographer suck. i mean, i guess he could have tore down the fence and the lamp posts and had the batter turn around to see his front (although then the pitch would have been coming to his back) or asked that the two teams of hipsters playing ball move their game to another field so that the photographer could photograph the front of the batter and capture the monument all in a perfect image that i'm sure PG could produce any day of the week and twice and sunday. right PG?
I assumed as much wutings, lol. ;)
tantricboomerang: Nice.
Reminded me of this shot.
Oops. This shot...
